It was meant to begin filming at the beginning of last year, but the funding fell through. However it now appears that production has restarted on Cowboys For Christ, Robin Hardy’s spiritual sequel to his 1974 movie, The Wicker Man.
Hardy’s novel version of the story came out in 2006, telling the tale of some Texan missionaries who set off to Scotland to spread the word of God. They come across a community that as part of its May Day celebrations chooses its May Queen as well as a boy called The Laddie. They all have a party and then the next day the Pagan goings on take a sinister turn when the real reason for choosing the Laddie is revealed.
It would appear than that Hardy isn’t exactly interested in moving onto new and original plots, especially as he’s said this is just part two of a proposed trilogy.
Shock Til You Drop is reporting that production on Cowboys For Christ has now restarted after last year’s abortive effort. Shooting in Texas has already completed and the production has now moved on to Scotland. Christopher Lee is due to star as Sir Lachlan Morrison, which should hopefully give things a bit .
Let’s hope Hardy can recapture the magic of the of The Wicker Man, and that maybe the third part can be about burn the corpse of the awful 2004 remake starring Nic Cage.
It’s believed Cowboys For Christ will be in cinemas next year.
