Shooting beings today on The Kids Are All Right, the new film from Laurel Canyon director Lisa Cholodenko, and based on a script she co-wrote with Stuart Blumberg. The film teams two of the best actresses in the world who have never won an Oscar, Julianne Moore and Annette Bening, who play a lesbian couple bringing up two kids.
The children, played by Alice In Wonderland’s Mia Wasikoswa and Josh Hutcherson from Journey to the Centre Of The Earth, decide to seek out their sperm donor father (Mark Ruffalo), but get more than they bargained for when he becomes part of their lives.
We can imagine there are quite a lot of people out there who quite like the idea of having Annette Bening and Julianne Moore as their mums, although the film looks like it’s trying to get a bit of mileage out of the gay parenting debate. The movie doesn’t have a ditributor as yet, but with such an interesting subject and distinguished cast, we can’t imagine that The Kids Are All Right will end up just sitting on the shelf.
