Is it just us, or does a film about a bunch of people going to their parents’ 30th Wedding Anniversary and discovering that they’re all adoped not really sound like a good concept for a laugh a minute family comedy? Well, that’s basically the plot of Relativity, the new film just announced by Walden Media.
It seems to be a bit of a theme in Hollywood at the moment to develop comedies based on plots that don’t really sound that ripe for humour, but as we haven’t seen the script, maybe they’ve managed to turn the trauma of discovering you’re adopted into something truly hilarious.
The movie is due to be directed by Brandon Camp, whose first directorial outing, Love Happens, starring Jennifer Aniston and Aaron Eckhart, is due out in October. He’ll be working from Peter A. Craig’s script. To be honest, with Relativity it sounds like Craig has just taken his script for Dan In Real Life and changed the situation and names, while retaining many of the basic ideas.
It’s a bit of a new direction for Walden Media, who’ve generally concentrated up until now on adaptations of classic children’s novels, such as the Narnia movies and The Bridge To Terabithia. However with several flops under their belt, it seems they’ve felt the need to diversify.
There’s no news yet on when the movie might arrive in cinemas.
