After spending decades almost exclusively chronicling life in New York, Woody Allen has certainly had a love affair with Europe over the last few years. He first came over to make Match Point in 2005, having got fed up with the difficulty getting funding in the US. He’s since made Scoop, Cassandra’s Dream and Vicky Cristina Barcelona in Europe, before taking a trip back to NY for this year’s Whatever Works, starring Larry David.
After Vicky Cristina Barcelona he signed a three-picture deal with a Spanish company, the first of which will be an untitled London based project, which has Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins and Antonio Banderas attached to star and is due out next year. Now it’s been announced that he’ll be following that with a film set in Paris.
The production company behind the film have promised it’ll be a romantic movie.
Woody was going to make a movie in France a couple of year ago but shelved plans when problems arose. It’d be interesting to know if this is the same movie resurrected, or a completely new one. Either way, let’s just hope its one of the films where he actually seems to be making an effort.
