We’re quite used now to every halfway successful videogame getting a movie adaptation, but it’s rare for Hollywood to pick up one that can actually see might make a decent film. Columbia has now announced that they’re developing a movie version of the hit Playstation game, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, with Kyle Ward set to write the script (Ward ‘s becoming the go-to guy for videogame adaptation, writing the upcoming Kane & Lynch and also working on Hitman 2).
The story follows a descendent of Sir Francis Drake, Nate Drake, a treasure hunter who thinks he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled golden city. As well as having to battle competing treasure seekers, he also has to do battle with mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis, who want to stop Nate getting to his goal.
Yeah, it’s a bit like Indiana Jones (and a tad Tomb Raider) but it sounds like it could be fun!
Interestingly one of the producers of the movie is Avi Arad, head of Marvel Comics. He’s been the key figure in getting so many of Marvel’s comic book characters onto the big screen, but this would be one of his few non-Marvel film projects.
There’s no news on when Columbia are hoping to get the movie into cinema, but lets hope it doesn’t disappear into development hell.
