Having ditched Footloose because he didn’t want to do another musical, it looks like Zac Efron is furthering his ambitions to be taken seriously as a proper grown up movie star by signing up with Madrake Pictures for an untitled thriller.
Little is known about the project as the makers seem to be keeping even the most basic plot details under wraps. However it has been described as a ‘sexy thriller’, which is sure to excite teenage girls (and gay men). Oddly enough though, it actually reteams Efron with the screenwriter of Hairspray, Leslie Dixon, so it look like they’re both trying to go off in new directions.
Whether Efron will be able to make the transition from High School Musical teen heartthrob to proper star is yeat to be seen. His first attempt, Me And Orson Welles, in which he plays a teenager cast in Welles’ 1937 radio adaptation of Julius Caesar, is yet to be released.
To be honest, on current evidence he could just make a career out of taking his top off, as that’s all the trailer for 17 Again was about, and that became a hit. Why bother with acting when you can get paid millions just for doing that?
