While it wasn’t known whether Katherine Heigl would be returning to hit TV show Grey’s Anatomy, it’s recently been announced she’ll be returning for another season, while co-star T.R. Knight is leaving the show (and apparently heading for Broadway). However her impending TV commitments haven’t stopped Heigl from signing up for a new romantic comedy called Life As We Know It, which is being made by Warner Bros.
The screenplay has been hanging around since 2001 and concerns a two unattached adults whose worlds are turned upside down when their mutual best friends die in an accident and name them as caregivers for their orphaned daughter. Sounds hilarious, we just love comedies where children lose both their parents. Ok, we’re sure it’ll be handled sensitively (or at least that the emotional fallout for the kids will be glossed over in true Holywood fashion).
The film is due to be directed by Greg Berlanti, who’s mainly known for writing and producing TV shows like ‘Dawson’s Creek’, ‘Brothers & Sisters’ and ‘Eli Stone’. While he was attached to direct The Green Lantern at one point, he’ll just be producing that project now.
Many had expected Heigl to leave Grey’s Anatomy so she could concentrate on her burgeoning film career, which has seen her appear in the hit movies Knocked Up and 27 Dresses. Despite talk of problems behind-the-scenes of the medical drama, Heigl recently said she’d be happy to return to the show, and indeed now she will be, although it looks like she wants to have a movie career as well. There’s no news yet on when Life As We Know It might hit theatres,
