Apparently a sequel to Hitman is in the works, as Kyle Ward has been hired by 20th Century Fox to write one. Anyone who’s seen the original might wonder why they’re bothering with a follow-up, especially as the movie made less than $100 million at cinemas across the globe, but that doesn’t seem to have put them off.
However, as the involvement of Timothy Olyphant hasn’t been confirmed as the eponymous killer, it may turn out that this will be a straight-to-DVD sequel, rather than a theatrical outing. Either way, it’s difficult to imagine it’s going to be any good, as original threw away tonnes of promise on a rubbish plot and dodgy action.
Ward does have a bit of a videogame pedigree, writing the upcoming adapatation of Kane & Lynch, which is due to star Bruce Willis, but even he will probably have difficult making a Hitman sequel worthwhile. There’s no news yet on when we might be seeing this sequel – hopefully never.
