There’s been a surprising amount of buzz about Kenny Ortega’s (High School Musical) proposed remake of Footloose. First Zac Efron was cast and then he dropped out (he thinks he’s done enough musicals for the time being) and was replaced by Gossip Girl’s Chase Crawford (who admittedly is probably second on the making young girls swoon scale at the moment), and now comes the thrilling announcement that Julianne Hough has joined the cast.
Who? Julianne Hough, of course. Famed for, umm, well, for getting announced that she’s going to appear in the remake of Footloose. She is more recognisable to American audiences for her appearances as one of the professional dancer on Dancing With The Stars (the US version of Strictly Come Dancing), and she’s also carved out a bit of a country music career.
Hough is due to play Ariel in Footloose, originally played by Lori Singer, in the new musical version of the 1982 movie. The film is due out next June.
Let us just pray that Anton Du Beke never tries to have a movie career.
