It seems Sean Penn is taking a bit of time off as The Hollywood Reporter has said that he’s backing out of two films to spend more time with his family. Penn will no longer be playing Larry in the Farrelly Brothers’ The Three Stooges, and he won’t be appearing in Cartel, where he was due to play a lawyer trying to mount a case against the Mafia.
It’s particularly awkward news for the Farrelly’s, as they’re dure to start filming in August, with Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro as the other Stooges. The directors and producer will now have to decide whether to postpone or whether to recast the role. Imagine Entertainment have already said they plan to recast Penn’s role in Cartel.
Despite the fact that winning an Oscar has put him on a career high, tt’s perhaps understandable that Penn wants to take a bit of time off to concentrate on his family. In the last few months he and wife Robin Wright Penn have filed for divorce, only to reconcile. This is the second time this has happened in the last few years. It’s not known how long Sean Penn will be taking his leave of Hollywood, but it could be up to a year.
