Although this should be filed under rumour for the time being, some sources are now saying that Christopher Nolan isn’t the shoo-in to return for the next Batman movie that many assumed his to be. According to BatmanOnFilm, Warner Bros. is desperate for The Dark Knight director to return, but he’s not that interested. Apparently it took an awful amount of persuasion to get Nolan to make The Dark Knight, and it’s felt it would take even more to get his to sign on for a third instalment.
Whenever he’s asked about Batman 3, Nolan has always been a bit ambiguous, but made it sound that it was a more a case of getting the story right, rather than an all out no. And before you panic too much, it is true that at the moment Nolan is virtually the only person with any official ties to Batman 3 (e.g., he’s the only person the Writer’s Guild Of America officially has done to write the script), and it’s believed that Nolan’s deal with Warner to make Inception included at least a a tacit agreement he’d make another Batman film afterwards. However it would seem at the moment that it’s far too early to assume he will indeed be the one behind the lens for the Caped Crusader’s next outing.
And if he does drop out, please, please, please don’t let them hire Joel Schumacher.
