While many rumours have circulated about whether last year’s Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull was the last we’d see of the adventurous archeologist, it now appears the fifth instalment may appear sooner rather than later.
In an interview with the BBC for Transformers 2, Shia LaBeouf said that he’d just heard from Steven Spielberg that the director has “cracked the story” of Indiana Jones 5 and that “I think they’re gearing that up”. It’s good news, as Harrison Ford has set a bit of a time limit on cranking out another Indy flick out, saying he’d be up for it as long as it didn’t take too long to put together (the last one took over a decade from pre-production starting to the movie getting released).
Rumours have swirled of the last 12 months that any future flicks would pass the baton on to LaBeouf’s character, Mutt Williams, but that doesn’t appear to be the case, as it appears both him and Ford would return. You can understand why Harrison might be quite keen, as he was last year’s highest paid movie star, picking up over $65 million for a single film. Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull certainly proved the archeologist had legs, becoming the second highest grossing movie of 2008, after The Dark Knight.
There’s no news on when the movie might be made, but it does sound like they’re still pretty early in production. Let’s just hope they don’t wait until Ford has to fight off the bad guys with a Zimmer frame.
