Few under 50 will really know much about him, other than that he had a horse called trigger, but some in Hollywood must reckon Roy Rogers is still worth spending some money on, even if he did die in 1998. A financier has teamed up with the Roy Rogers Family Entertainment Corp. to produce an animated TV series, interactive game, merchandising and a trilogy of new ‘King of The Cowboys’ films.
The CEO of the company behind the trilogy said that the films will, “not be a biopic, and will not be a traditional Western, but rather a family fantasy adventure. Roy Rogers, Dale Evans and Trigger are quintessential figures of America, and we will introduce this franchise to a new audience while capitalizing on the millions of Roy Rogers fans worldwide.”
While it might seem like one hell of an investment in a character who’s well past his heyday, it should be remembered quite how huge Roy Rogers used to be. Along with Dale Evans and Trigger, he starred in over 88 films, made over 100 episodes of his own TV show and sold more than 120 million Roy Rogers comics across the world. He truly was a superstar, so taking a punt that a new generation might enjoy his clean cut heroism isn’t as bizarre as it might seem. He was, after all, a bit like a live action Woody from Toy Story, and kids seem to like him.
