It really does seem that in the last few months more and more female directors are being given the chance by Hollywood to make movies. Tinsel Town really has been slow to entrust directing gigs to women, but since the success of Mamma Mia! and other female directed movies, they slowly seem to have realised that your ability to make a movie isn’t based on your genitals.
The latest female director to get a new gig is Christine Jeffs, who had indie success recently with Sunhhine Cleaning, the Amy Adams and Emily Blunt flick that’s out in cinemas over here on June 26th, as well as the impressively depressing biopic, Sylvia, based on the life of Sylvia Plath. Jeffs is now moving onto Wonderful Tonight, about the relationship between a confirmed batchelor and a young woman, after a one-night stand leads to an unplanned pregnancy (sounds a bit like a more serious version of Knocked Up to us).
Although there’s no cast confirmed as of yet, Castle Rock Productions is now moving forward with the project, which is based on a script by J. Mills Goodloe.
