We reported yesterday about how more and more studios are prepared to make special versions of their films for IMAX screen (See: Big Screens Get Bigger Transformers), well now the downside of this has emerged with the debut of the IMAX version of Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince getting pushed back by a fortnight in the US.
The reason for the delay is that IMAX screens showing Transformers: Revenge Of The Falled have had to agree to show the movie for four full weeks form the film’s release, which means there’s no screens left for the July 15th debut of Harry Potter 6. The result is that those in the US who want the wizard movie at mazimum resolution will have to wait until July 29th for the flick to appear on giant screens.
It’s a particular upset for the studio, as the makers of Harry Potter 6 have produced 12 minutes of the movie in 3D, which will only be available on IMAX screens. However with the franchise now the highest gorssing in Hollywood history, HP6 is still going to make a whole lot of cash and may actually benefit from people going for a repeat vieweing on IMAX screens to get the 3D experience.
Now all we need is more IMAX screens in the UK, as currently there’s hardly any screens in the country set up for the format.
