We reported a couple of weeks ago that work had begun on a prequel to Alien, with Tony and Ridley Scott attached to produce, and ad whizz Carl Rinsch set to direct. However Entertainment Weekly has said that despite the Scotts being happy with the choice of director, 20th Century Fox is pushing for Ridley to return and drect the movie himself.
According to EW’s sources, the studio, which owns the rights to the franchise, isn’t interested in greenlighting the project unless Scott is attached to direct. That seems highly unlikely at this stage,as Ridley has shown no sign that he’d be open to stepping behind the camera himself.
However it’s difficult to believe that even if Scott was only producing and the script was good enough, that would Fox turn down the opportunity to make the movie. Even a Ridley producing credit would be worth a lot. Hell, if they’ll greenlight two lousy Alien Vs. Predator flicks, they ought to be rushing at this.
