He’s been a major figure behind-the-scenes in Hollywood since the mid 70s, and so you gotta think Jon Peters would have some juicy stories to tell. However it appeared his stories were too juicy, as when a proposal for his memoir was leaked, numerous people stepped forward to say they’d sue if the allegations ever appeared in print.
This caused Peters to hand back the $700,000 he’d been paid for the tome by publishers, however it now appears the project isn’t dead after all. The book is said to include tell-all chapters, detailing things such as Barbra Streisand allegedly having torrid affairs with co-star such as Robert Redford, Ryan O’Neal and Kris Kristofferson (Peter’s movie break was as producer of Streisand’s hit A Star Is Born – he’d started out as her hair stylist!).
The producer’s ghostwriter, Bill Stadiem, has now said the book is still on, adding, “Jon is not scared of anything or anybody – and the book will not contain anything defamatory or untrue. But that proposal, which I co-wrote, wasn’t intended for anyone to read. It should never have been leaked.”
It really could be a fascinating read, with Peters having produced Flashdance, Caddyshack, An American Werewolf In London, The Color Purple, Rain Man, Batman and Superman Returns, along with many others. He also had an unsuccessful spell as the head of Columbia Pictures. Let’s hope he doesn’t have to remove all the juciy bits though, because let’s face it, that’s what’s going to be most interesting.
