If ever a movie had a dream team of directors, it must be Heavy Metal, Zevin Eastman’s adapation of the adult illustrated fantasy titles. When it was first announced, the list of people helming segments of the film included David Fincher, Zach Snyder and Gore Verbinski, with Rob Zombie since added. Now it’s been announced that James Cameron is joining the list, and that Jack Black will be joining Kung Fu Panda’s Mark Osborne for a comedy segment, with promises that three more big name directors will be announced further down the road.
While it is true that anthology films don’t exactly have a good track record in Hollywood, with a list of directors that good, you gotta hope that heavy Metal is gonna be pretty good. Then again, you’d have thought that about 1983’s Twilight Zone: The Movie, which had Joe Dante, George Miller, John Landis and Steven Spielberg directing, and that turned out to be rubbish.
