Masi Oka is annoying. He’s one of those people who just seems to be able to do everything and do it well. He used to be a top player in the special effects industry, having worked on the likes of T3 and the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Then he appeared as Hiro in Heroes and became the best thing about that series. Not content with all this, he’s now come up with an idea for a movie that’s been picked up by Dreamworks with plans to turn it into a big budget adventure. Ugh, it’s sickening I tell you. Okay fine, we’re just jealous.
The movie is set to be called The Defenders and will follow a group of people from around the world who all play an online video game. While they’ve never met in real life, they’re forced to get together in order to embark on a real adventure. As Oka has said about the film, “You can be whoever you want to be (in onine role playing games). The question came to me: What if you had to live up to the person you created in the virtual world?”
Director D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia) is in negotiations to helm the project, which producers have promised will be an all-out family adventure in the vein of The Goonies.
