It’s been announced that Crash and In The Valley Of Elah director Paul Haggis is set to re-team with Lionsgate for the thriller The Next Three Days, a remake of the french flick, Pour Elle. Last time he teamed with Lionsgate he walked away with a Best Picture and Best Screenplay Oscar for Crash, so it’s certainly a good omen, even if Crash is probably the most overrated film ever to walk away with the top gong at the Academy Awards.
The original French film sees a high school teacher devising a daring plan to rescue his wrongfully imprisoned wife from prison after she’s sent away for murder. Haggis will write and direct the remake, which is expected to begin principal photography in August.
The director commented, “I’m thrilled to be working with Lionsgate again; they did such a great job distributing Crash. I’m looking forward to exploring the depths of faith and the limits of love.”
Let’s just hope it’s not as miserable and needlessly nihilistic as Crash, though.
