After Nicole Kidman dropped out of Woody Allen’s new, but as yet untitled, London project, due to scheduling conflicts with John Cameron Mitchell’s Rabbit Hole, many big names were bandied around as possible replacements. However Woody’s now announced that the role will actually be going to the none a-list Brit, Lucy Punch.
While she’s not a household name, Punch is familiar face on UK screens, in TV series like ‘Doc Martin’ and ‘The Class’ as well as films such as Ella Enchanted, Hot Fuzz and St. Trinian’s, and could be a very good fit for Woody if he’s trying to be funny with this one, as she certainly has good comedy chops. She’ll be joining a starry cast including Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Brolin, Freida Pinto and Naomi Watts, with reports that Punch will be playing a posh escort in the movie. However that’s about all that’s known about the film, as Woody isn’t revealing much else quite yet.
Filming is scheduled to begin later this summer.
