Dreamworks Animation has announced the movies it’ll be bringing out in the next few years and it appears we’ll be getting a lot of sequels and spin-offs. While there are a few original ideas, even these can’t be said to be that innovative – but then that’s always going to be the problem when you’re up against Pixar.
In 2010, Dreamworks Animation will be rolling the inevitable Shrek Forever After (i.e. Shrek 4), which hopefully will make up for the lacklustre Shrek the Third. They’ll also be bringing out How To Tame Your Dragon, which is set in the viking era and follows a teenager who makes friends with an injured dragon, and Oobermind, about a supervillain whose life becomes insanely dull after he beats his superhero nemesis. Oobermind will feature the voice talents of Robert Downey Jr and Tina Fey.
2011 will see the return of Kung Fu Panda in The Kaboom Of Doom, with Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman already signed up to reprise their roles. Dreamwork’s Animation’s other movie for the year will be The Guardians, which sounds a bit like Justice League except with Santa, The Easter Bunny the Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost and the Sandman having to team up to fight a villain.
Finally in 2011 there’ll be the first Shrek spin-off with Puss In Boots, in which Antonio Banderas’ Puss will be joined by Salma Hayek’s Kitty. There’ll also be Madagascar 3, in which all the animals will head to Europe as part of a travelling circus.
