Here’s a movie that sounds like a laugh a minute – a biopic of Jack Kervorkian, the controversial doctor known for his promotion of terminal patient’s right to die. The film is set to be directed by Barry Levinson from a script by Adam Mazar, and loosely based on the snappily titled book, ‘Between the Dying and the Dead: Dr. Jack Kevorkian, the Assisted Suicide Machine and the Battle to Legalize Euthanasia.’
Kervorkian is best know for inventing and promoting devices that would allow people to kill themselves if they were terribly ill and couldn’t do it any other way. He also said that he personally had assisted with over 130 suicides. His fight to legalise euthanasia ended up with him in court on numerous occassion, before he was convicted of homicide for helping end-stage ALS sufferer Thomas Youk to kill himself.
It could make an interesting film, but we’re betting not a very jolly one.
