In the latest evidence that the world is going completely insane, it’s been reported that Guy Ritchie is in Hollywood writing a script for a remake of Guys & Dolls. We now he likes gangster movies, but maybe this is going a bit too far.
According to The Sun, a source said, “Guy has been on the case with the idea of making a musical recently. He had been throwing ideas around with Jason Statham about writing their own musical. Guy has had a lot of meetings with top studio bosses about other projects but the Guys And Dolls idea really tickled him.”
It’s also been suggested he might transplant the musical to the UK. Personally, we’ll believe it when we see it, but it is true that a remake of Guys & Dolls has long been mooted in Hollywood, with numerous people attached to the project (at one point Vin Diesel was going to play Nathan Detroit, which was Marlon Brando’s role in the original movie). With the success of stage revivals on Broadway and in the West End, a remake is fairly likely, but whether Ritchie is the man to helm it is another question. On a positive note though, at least he wouldn’t feel the need to cast Madonna in any of the main roles.
