Christian Bale May Be Steve Jobs For Danny Boyle – He’s back in talks for the role

15th October 2014 By Tim Isaac

Shortly after Steve Jobs died it looked like there was going to be a real race to see which of two biopics would make it to cinemas first. While the Ashton Kutcher starring Job is already over a year old, the one with a script by Aaron Sorkin is still in the works.

Back in April Danny Boyle signed up to direct, and now he may have snared his lead – a man rumoured for the role some time ago who now appears to be coming aboard, Christian Bale. Boyle had been in talks with Leo DiCaprio, but when things stalled they went back to Bale, who seems interested, according to THR.

The Steve Jobs biopic will be based on Walter Isaacson’s biography, which was written following numerous interview with the man himself and those around him. Sorkin has said that the movie will centre around three key speeches, where Jobs announced the innovative Apple products Mac, NeXT, and the original iPod. Apple’s other co-founder, Steve Wozniak, is serving as a consultant on the film.

Ewan McGregor & More May Be On The Doctor Strange Shortlist – Matthew McConaughey, Jake Gyllenhaal & Oscar Isaac

15th October 2014 By Tim Isaac

A couple of months ago it seemed Marvel has sewn up the casting of Doctor Strange with Joaquin Phoenix in talks for the role. However he passed on the role and so the studio has been on the lookout again.

Variety is now reporting that Marvel has a shortlist of the people they may want, with some suggesting Ewan McGregor is now the frontrunner, with Ethan Hawke, Matthew McConaughey, Jake Gyllenhaal, Oscar Isaac, and Jared Leto also in the mix.

While the list ranges from big names to those still rising up the ladder, it’s suggested Marvel would prefer a well-known name to lead the film, presumably because of concerns about lacking of recognition for the character.

However all of the them could fit the bill, as even Oscar Isaac is likely to be a much bigger name than he is now after Star Wars Episode VII. It’s thought McConaughey may be too big a name and too busy, unless he really wants to join the Marvel universe, while Gyllenhaal has a very mixed record in big films.

Doctor Strange is a former neurosurgeon, a practicing sorcerer, and serves as the Sorcerer Supreme, the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. Scott Derrickson is set to direct, with a July 8th, 2016 release date set.

Jurassic World Poster Lets Us Know The Park Is Opening – While harking back to the past

15th October 2014 By Tim Isaac

It may be 21 years since Jurassic Park was first released, but the new poster for next year’s Jurassic World isn’t departing too far from the template that was set up back then, with the t-rex skeleton back in its circle.

Director Colin Trevorrow released the poster himself via Twitter, echoing the tagline with the message #theparkisopen.

As that suggests, the movie takes place in a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, where John Hammond’s vision has finally come to life. However it’s a safe bet that things don’t go well and there’ll be plenty of running and screaming from prehistoric beasties.

Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy, Jake Johnson, Judy Greer and B.D. Wong (reprising his character from the original Jurassic Park) star, with a June 12th, 2015 release date set.

Sam Raimi Takes On Love May Fail – He’s heading into dramatic thriller territory

15th October 2014 By Tim Isaac

We haven’t heard too much from Sam Raimi since Oz The Great And Powerful, but now he’s plotting his next move, as Deadline reports that he’s in negotiations to make the dramatic thriller Love May Fail.

The always dependable Mike White (The Good Girl, School Of Rock) has written the screenplay, based on Silver Linings Playbook author Matthew Quick’s novel. The story follows ‘a woman who is coming off a demoralizing ending to her marriage to a cheating husband returns to her hometown determined to clear the name of her favorite English teacher, whose career was ended forcibly after a classroom scandal.’

The novel isn’t due to be published until June 2015, so Raimi is certainly getting in early and obviously believes this is a story worth turning into a movie.

Warner Announces DC Comics Slate To 2020 – Justice League, Aquaman, Flash, Shazam & more

15th October 2014 By Tim Isaac

A few months ago Warner Bros announced release dates for a load of DC Comics movies, but other than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, it didn’t say exactly which superheroes would appear in which movies.

That’s now changed, with 10 films having been announced running up to 2020. So what are we getting?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Suicide Squad (2016)
Wonder Woman (2017)
Justice League Part One (2017)
The Flash (2018)
Aquaman (2018)
Shazam (2019)
Justice League Part Two (2019)
Cyborg (2020)
Green Lantern (2020)

There’s also plenty of casting news, with confirmation that Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Ben Affleck will return for Justice League, while Gal Gadot will be in Wonder Woman’s shoe in a solo movie, and Jason Momoa will indeed be Aquaman.

On top of that, while Grant Gustin is playing Flash on the small screen, Ezra Miller will take on the role on the big screen. Ray Fisher meanwhile will by Cyborg. The fact both those roles have already been cast strongly suggests we’ll be seeing them in Justice League and they may even pop up in Batman v Superman in one way or another.

If that weren’t enough, there are also likely to be standalone Batman and Superman movie, so Warner really is betting big on its comic book world and that it can find the same sort of success that Marvel has. Of course if the movies aren’t as successful as they hope, the plans they’ve announced may well change.
