The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Trailer – Can’t Middle Earth people just learn to get along?

6th November 2014 By Tim Isaac

In just over a month we’ll be going back into Middle Earth for the last time (probably) with the release of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. To give us a taste of what we can expect, the full trailer has now arrived, which you can watch below.

As you would expect, the trailer is big on battle (which presumably involves five armies) and suggests this instalment certainly won’t be lacking in action. Indeed rumours already suggest the final battle itself will last for more than 45 minutes.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” the third in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien.

‘”The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and the Company of Dwarves. The Dwarves of Erebor have reclaimed the vast wealth of their homeland, but now must face the consequences of having unleashed the terrifying Dragon, Smaug, upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.

‘As he succumbs to dragon-sickness, the King Under the Mountain, Thorin Oakenshield, sacrifices friendship and honor in his search for the legendary Arkenstone. Unable to help Thorin see reason, Bilbo is driven to make a desperate and dangerous choice, not knowing that even greater perils lie ahead. An ancient enemy has returned to Middle-earth. Sauron, the Dark Lord, has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide—unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends as five great armies go to war.’

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is released in UK cinemas 12 December 2014.

Star Wars Episode VII’s Title Is Announced – Find out what it’s going to be called

6th November 2014 By Tim Isaac

Even before the notoriously secretive JJ Abrams came onboard, Disney was keeping the possible full titles of Star Wars Episode VII close to its chest. However, with the House Of Mouse announcing that principal photography has officially come to an end, they’ve also decided to let us know what the movie will actually be called.

And here it is: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Undoubtedly this will start a lot of chatter, not least that it appears Disney has dropped Episode VII from the title , which could just be a refocusing in light of Lucasfilm’s attempts to extend the universe with multiple films (not all of which will be direct sequels to this film). It could also be an attempt to sell this as being something new, rather than just a continuation of George Lucas’ opus.

There’s also the title itself, which is bound to be loved by some and loathed by others. To my mind, it sounds like a computer game, but at least it isn’t as bad as The Phantom Menace. It also makes you wonder how the Force will be awakening, as it wasn’t exactly silent in the earlier movies. The new title suggests perhaps we’ll see an evolution from what’s gone before.

The main immediate speculation is that while Lucas’s vision said their could only be two Sith who were at one with the Dark Side of the Force, here there could be many more. After all, everything had to start over after Return Of The Jedi, with only Luke Skaywalker left who had any Jedi skills, so it may be that the rules aren’t the same with a proper Jedi Order presiding over things.

Into The Woods Character Posters & Trailer Arrive – Enter the world of Stephen Sondheim’s musical

6th November 2014 By Tim Isaac

Disney is hoping we’ll all be in the mood for a musical just after Christmas when they release Into The Woods, but as they know most people don’t know the tunes, they’re busy selling it on the great cast, beautiful visuals and fairytale-based storyline.

To get us excited a set of 10 characters posters have now been released along with a new poster. You can take a look at them below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘”Into the Woods” is a modern twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy), all tied together by an original story involving a Baker and his Wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the Witch (Meryl Streep), who has put a curse on them.

‘Rob Marshall, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the Academy Award®-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” directs the film, which is based on the Tony®-winning original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics. Produced by John DeLuca, Marshall, “Wicked” producer Marc Platt and Callum McDougall, “Into the Woods” will be released in UK cinemas January 9, 2015.’

James Corden (Broadway’s “One Man, Two Guvnors,” “The Three Musketeers,” “Gavin & Stacey”) plays the role of the Baker, a hard-working man who desperately wants to start a family.

Emily Blunt (“Looper,” “The Young Victoria,” “The Devil Wears Prada”) is the Baker’s Wife, a childless woman who longs to be a mother.

Anna Kendrick (“Pitch Perfect,” “Up in the Air”) fills the shoes of Cinderella, who finds herself on a journey of self-discovery.

Daniel Huttlestone (“Les Misérables”) lands the role of Jack, an absentminded and adventurous boy who trades his treasured cow for five magic beans.

Lilla Crawford (Broadway’s “Annie”) makes her feature-film debut as Little Red Riding Hood, a smart and spunky girl who journeys into the woods, finding unexpected adventures along the way.

Billy Magnussen (Broadway’s “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “The East”) is the dashing and eager Prince who courts Rapunzel.

Chris Pine (“Star Trek Into Darkness,” “Jack Ryan”) portrays Cinderella’s Prince, charming and impossibly handsome, who is on an endless quest to find his bride.

MacKenzie Mauzy (“Brother’s Keeper,” Broadway’s “Next to Normal”) plays Rapunzel, a sheltered young woman who experiences the world beyond her tower for the first time.

Meryl Streep (“The Iron Lady,” “The Devil Wears Prada,” “August: Osage County”) portrays the Witch who wishes to reverse a curse so that her beauty may be restored.

Johnny Depp (“Pirates of the Caribbean” films, “The Lone Ranger,” “Sweeney Todd”) steps in as the Wolf, who sets his sights on Little Red Riding Hood.

Final Annie Trailer – Quvenzhane Wallis is having a hard knock life

6th November 2014 By Tim Isaac

The new version of Annie isn’t too far away, with a Christmas release set for the film which takes the classic musical and updates it to the modern day. And with Will Smith and Jay-Z both involved with updating the score, it should also be a little funkier.

The plot also remains the same, with little orphan Annie (Quvenzhane Wallis) having a hard-luck life in the foul orphanage run by Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). She’s then taken in by the filthy rich Benjamin Stacks (Jamie Foxx). In this version he’s running for office and initially just wants Annie so the press will see him being nice to an orphan, but he soon falls for the plucky youngster’s charms. But then Annie’s real parents are found, or are they?

Will Gluck is directing from his own screenplay, which was originally written by Aline Brosh McKenna and Emma Thompson.
