Still Alice Trailer – Julianne Moore is struck with early-onset Alzheimer’s

9th December 2014 By Tim Isaac

It seems likely Julianne Moore will be bidding for award nominations for Still Alice, which is the sort of movie the Academy of others often love, giving an actor the chance to show off their skill while playing a character dealing with serious illness.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Alice Howland, happily married with three grown children, is a renowned linguistics professor who starts to forget words. When she receives a diagnosis of Early-Onset Alzheimer’s Disease, Alice and her family find their bonds thoroughly tested. Her struggle to stay connected to who she once was is frightening, heartbreaking, and inspiring.’

The film is out in New York and LA now and will spread to the rest of the US starting January 16, 2015, while an early March 2015 UK release is set.

The Last Five Years Trailer – Anna Kendrick & Jeremy Jordan get romantic in the musical tale

9th December 2014 By Tim Isaac

A touching story of heartbreak and passion, The Last Five Years, based on the hit off-Broadway musical, stars Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan in this honest and funny portrayal of the highs and lows of a five year relationship.

Told almost entirely through song from a score by Jason Robert Brown, the film, which received its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, is directed and adapted for the screen by Richard LaGravenese and will be released across the UK in Spring 2015.

Filled with the lively energy of New York City’s cultural milieu, the film tells the story of the five-year relationship between rising novelist Jamie Wellerstein (Jeremy Jordan) and struggling actress Cathy Hyatt (Anna Kendrick). As Jamie’s new novel vaults him to the top of the literary scene, Cathy is still doing summer stock in Ohio, and their diverging levels of success pose pressing and dire challenges to their love. The film tells Cathy’s side of the story in reverse order, starting from the end of their marriage, while Jamie’s version of events begins when the couple first meets.

Edgar Ramirez Has Joy – Joining Jennifer Lawrence in David O. Russell’s biopic

9th December 2014 By Tim Isaac

After a few years flirting on the edges of Hollywood following his acclaimed performance in Carlos, Edgar Ramirez is in talks for a major role in David O. Russell’s joy, according to THR.

He joins Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro in the movie, which is a biopic of Joy Mangano, a struggling Long Island single mom of three who became one of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs with her self-wringing Miracle Mop invention. Annie Mumolo wrote the script about a woman who was working three jobs to try and support her family, and had to fight to get her invention recognised, but it eventually became a home shopping sensation, including her becoming one of the Home Shopping Network’s most successful presenters. Robert De Niro will play Joy’s father.

Assuming he signs on Ramirez will play her husband, Tony.

The actor has had small roles in the likes of Wrath Of The Titans, Zero Dark Thirty and The Bourne Ultimatum. However with his upcoming appearance as Bodhi in the remake of Point Break and now Joy, his star could be about the break big.

The film is due to shoot next February and may well be making an Oscar run at the end of 2015.

5th December 2014 By Tim Isaac

The boys are back, with The Expendables 3 arriving on DVD, Blu-ray, Digital Download and VOD in the UK on December 8th. And we’ve got three copies of the star-studded movie to give away on Blu-ray in this comp.

The Expendables 3 sees Barney (Sylvester Stallone), Christmas (Jason Statham) and the rest of the team come face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson), co-founder of the original Expendables team. Stonebanks, who eluded death before, is back and making it his mission to end The Expendables; but Barney has other plans. The latest mission in this saga of “big bruising and brutal action” (Sunday Mirror) becomes a clash of classic old-school versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

Harrison Ford, Dolph Lundgren, Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Kelsey Grammer, Kellan Lutz, Terry Crews, Randy Couture and more star.

You can also watch The Expendables 3: Extended Edition on Blu-ray, with the theatrical version and the version not seen in cinemas, featuring 6 minutes of additional action packed footage plus over 80 minutes of extras laced with legends, including: The Expendables 3 Documentary, New Blood: Stacked and Jacked, The Total Action Package, Gag Reel and an Extended Scene: Christmas Runs The Gauntlet with Jason Statham.

Terminator Genisys Teaser – Everything old is new again even if Arnie is back

5th December 2014 By Tim Isaac

Here’s a trailer that’s likely to divide fans. It’s set up to deliberately remind us of the early days of the Terminator franchise with an odd sense of nostalgia, but about halfway through it essentially says everything we saw before never happened and that it’s all been reset.

It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it leaves a lot of question marks over the movie.

A previous reported (much of which is confirmed by the trailer) the film ‘is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.’

Although that sounds pretty much like the original, things have changed as in this version Sarah Connor ‘was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she’s been raised by (brace yourself) Schwarzenegger’s Terminator—an older T-800 she calls “Pops”—who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who’s great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion.’

The movie is due out July 2015.

While We’re Young Trailer – Ben Stiller & Naomi Watts try to keep their youth

5th December 2014 By Tim Isaac

Noah Baumbach (Frances Ha, Squid And The Whale) is back with While We’re Young, which reteamed him with his Greenberg star Ben Stiller, alongside Naomi Watts, Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried, for a look at a 40-something couple trying to keep hold of their youth.

Stiller and Watts are the couple, plodding along in early middle-aged life when they meets Driver and Seyfried’s hipster young couple. Their ennui – Stiller’s character has spent 10 years editing a single documentary – is upended and they suddenly feel energised, but of course recapturing your youth isn’t that simple.

A March 27th, 2015 US release is set and it’ll be out in the UK a week later.
