Kaya Scodelario Eyed For Pirates 5 – The Maze Runner star may be the female lead

22nd January 2015 By Tim Isaac

The Pirates certainly have a formula – Jack Sparrow, young guy, young woman and a supernatural villain. It doesn’t look like they’ll be breaking away from that with the fifth film, as Johnny Depp will once again be Jack, Brenton Thwaites is the young guy, and Javier Bardem will be a bad guy ghost.

Now it’s time to find the young woman, with Deadline reporting that Maze Runner’s Kaya Scodelario is in early talks to take on the female lead and love interest for Thwaites British soldier.

Not too much is known about the plot of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, other than that Bardem will be a murderous ghost called Captain Brand, who’s seeking revenge for his brother.

Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rø (Kon-Tiki) will directing from a script by Jeff Nathanson (Men in Black 3, Tower Heist). Filming starts next month in Australia, with a July 7th, 2017 release date already set.

Kidnapping Mr. Heineken Trailer – Sam Worthington & Jim Sturgess take Anthony Hopkins

21st January 2015 By Tim Isaac

Unfortunately Rutger Hauer is not enough. Back in 2011 he starred in the Dutch movie The Heineken Kidnapping, but now the same true story is getting an English-language makeover and Rutger has been replaced by Anthony Hopkins.

Kidnapping Mr. Heineken tells the tale of Freddy Heineken, lager magnate and a man not short of spare change. In 1983 he was abducted and held in a grotty cell for 21 days before his kidnapper’s ransom demands were met – the biggest ransom ever for a single person. Upon being released, a traumatised Heineken used his unlimited wealth to help the police track down his abductors and bring them to justice.

Sam Worthington, Jim Sturgess, Ryan Kwanten, Mark van Eeuwen and Thomas Cocquerel also star as those who hatch the kidnapping plot. Daniel Alfredson (who helmed two of the original Millennium Trilogy films) directs.

Take a look below for the trailer.

First Pics From The Revenant Surface – Leo DiCaprio gets grubby for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu

21st January 2015 By Tim Isaac

The Revenant certainly doesn’t sound like your typical Leo DiCaprio film, but it’s certainly intriguing, and the fact it has Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Birdman, Babel) behind the camera also bodes extremely well.

Now the first couple of pics from the movie have arrived via EW, featuring a bearded and rather grubby DiCaprio alongside Inarritu.

Leo plays the central role in the based-on-a-true-story story, as 1820s fur trader Hugh Glass. He gets mauled by a grizzly bear and then to make matters worse he is robbed and left for dead. Glass manages to survive and sets off on a quest for vengeance against those who robbed him.

Tom Hardy, Will Poulter, and Domnhall Gleeson also star.

The director adds of the movie, “It’s a fun ride. It’s a very experimental thing that we’re doing here… I’m now addicted to doing things that can fail horribly or maybe that can give us a surprise. We are all into it.”

Felicity Jones & Rooney Mara Testing For Star Wars Spinoff – They’re up for the standalone movie

21st January 2015 By Tim Isaac

When Disney bought Lucasfilm they quickly announced not just that they would produce a new trilogy continuing the main Star Wars story arc, but that in the years between those films would be standalone movies. One of those even has a director – Godzilla’s Gareth Edwards –  and it’s even gotten to the point where they’re starting to look at actors.

According to THR, Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Rooney Mara (Pan) and Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) are all set to test for the female lead. However it’s still not known what character they would be playing.

Previous rumours have suggested it would be everything from an origin story for Boba Fett to the tale of a young Han Solo when he was mixed up with a group of space pirates. However if they’re trying to find the female lead first, those rumours could be completely wrong.

It’s suggested that other actresses have also tested, but it’s not clear who, although it appears the early part of the search took place in Britain, before moving to the US. Felicity Jones is apparently high on the want list, but there may be complications with scheduling due to the fact she’s due to shoot Ron Howard’s Inferno this year.

Expect to hear more soon.

The Gunman International Trailer – Sean Penn is an assassin in trouble

20th January 2015 By Tim Isaac

Sean Penn is known for being picky and a bit idiosyncratic with his movie roles, generally avoiding typical Hollywood fare, but there’s no doubt The Gunman doesn’t sound like anything particularly unusual. Let’s hope the great cast – which includes Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone and Mark Rylance – can raise it above the generic.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In THE GUNMAN, directed by Pierre Morel, Sean Penn stars as a former Special Forces soldier and military contractor suffering from PTSD. He tries to reconnect with his long time love, but first must go on the run from London to Barcelona and across Europe in order to clear his name.’

The suggestion of PTSD may explain what attract Penn, allowing him to stretch his acting muscles more than most assassin tales.

The Gunman hits UK cinemas on 20th March.

Win A Most Wanted Man On Blu-ray! – Get your hands on one of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s final performances

18th January 2015 By Tim Isaac

Philip Seymour Hoffman’s final performance in A Most Wanted Man arrives on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on 19th January 2015, courtesy of Entertainment One. We’ve teamed up with them to give away three copies of the film on Blu-ray.

Adapted by Anton Corbijn (Control, The American) from John Le Carre’s (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) acclaimed novel, A Most Wanted Man is a smart and subtle psychological spy-thriller featuring an outstanding final lead performance from Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Hunger Games, Moneyball).

When a Chechen immigrant arrives illegally in Hamburg’s Islamic community he rouses the suspicion of German and US forces of being a suspected terrorist. Seemingly penniless and brandishing torture scars, he holds a letter that states he’s entitled to his father’s fortune. With the assistance of a naïve but well-meaning human rights lawyer (Rachel McAdams, Midnight in Paris) he seeks access to the funds through a sinister private banker with corrupt connections (Willem Dafoe, Spiderman, Inside Man).

Disillusioned and downtrodden espionage officer Günther Bachmann (Seymour Hoffman) leads a team that seeks intelligence from the local Muslim Community, and wants to use the accused Jihadist to gain insight into higher ranks. An American CIA agent (Robin Wright, House of Cards, Forrest Gump) has her own agenda but agrees to play the game. Stakes rise as all parties become embroiled in an intense power battle. But who will succeed and hold the fate of this sought-after man in their hands?

To be in with a chance of winning on of the three copies of A Most Wanted Man on Blu-ray the we’ve got to give away, sign in to the site below (or click here to register) and answer the multiple choice question (see below for more details on how to enter). The competition closes on February 1st, 2015, so get answering and good luck!
