Dan Stevens In Talks For Beauty And The Beast – The film has got its beast

5th March 2015 By Tim Isaac

Just yesterday we said when we were reporting that Luke Evans was in talks to play Gaston in Disney’s live-action Beauty And The Beast, that it wouldn’t be long until the film had found its beast, but it happened quicker than we thought, as THR reports that Dan Stevens has entered negotiations for the role.

As we mentioned yesterday, it’s not known how close the film will be to the 1991 animated movie, or indeed if it’ll be a musical, but Emma Watson, who’ll play Belle, has previously said on Facebook, “It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There.’ … Time to start some singing lessons.”

Since leaving Downton Abbey, Stevens has been building his film career with movies such as Night At The Museum 3, A Walk Among the Tombstones and The Guest, but this will be his biggest role yet, even if he is hidden behind a lot of fur.

Bill Condon is set to direct, with the movie due to shoot later this year.

Luke Evans Will Be Beauty and the Beast’s Gaston – Joining Emma Watson in the live-action fairytale

4th March 2015 By Tim Isaac

In late January Emma Watson was officially announced as Belle in Disney’s planned live-action version of Beauty And The Beast. Now Variety reports that she’s got someone to bother her Luke Evans has signed up to be the prancing, primping, egotistical ladies-man Gaston.

The fact Gaston is in the movie further suggests that Disney is planning to hew fairly close to the animated version, which isn’t too surprising considering the live-action stage version of that 1991 movie became one of the longest running shows in Broadway history.

Watson will play the independent young woman who ends up being locked in the castle of a prince, who has been cursed due to his selfishness to become a beast. While they initially hate one another, soon a bond begins to grow. Gaston is the self-obsessed hunter who decides that Belle should be his girlfriend, and isn’t impressed when she turns him down, or when he discovers she actually likes her hairy captor more than she likes him.

What the film doesn’t have yet is a beast, but it presumably won’t be long until it finds one.

Bill Condon is set to direct, with production due to kick off later this year.

Mr. Holmes Teaser – Ian McKellen takes on a old-age Sherlock

4th March 2015 By Tim Isaac

Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller have some Sherlock Holmes competition this year, as Ian McKellen is taking on the legendary detective, as a rather older version of the character than his youger competition.

Now the first teaser trailer for the movie has arrived, which is brief but gives us a decentfeel for the film. And if you want to see more, you can take a look at the clip McKellen debuted a few weeks ago.

Here’s the synopsis:’Academy Award nominee Ian McKellen takes on the iconic role of Detective Sherlock Holmes, one of the British literature’s most revered characters in the forthcoming film MR HOLMES.

‘In 1947, the world famous sleuth has retired to a remote Sussex farmhouse, living in relative anonymity with only his housekeeper Mrs Munro and her young son Roger for company. Cantankerous, demanding and frustrated with the mis-representation of him in Watson’s best-selling novels, he diverts his attention to an unsolved case. As the mystery deepens, Sherlock tries desperately to recall the events of 30 years ago that ultimately led to his retirement.

‘Starring Academy Award nominee Laura Linney (The Savages), Frances de la Tour (Harry Potter)and newcomer Milo Parker, MR HOLMES is adapted from Mitch Cullin’s 2005 novel A Slight Trick of the Mind and is directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker Bill Condon (Gods and Monsters).

MR HOLMES will be released in cinemas across the UK & Ireland on June 19th.

New Avengers: Age Of Ultron Trailer Hits – Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans & co. are back

4th March 2015 By Tim Isaac

I think Marvel are keen for us to know that Avengers: Age Of Ultron won’t be short on action, as they’ve released a trailer that seems to want to suggest the Battle Of New York was a bit wimpy compared to what they have in store.

You can take a look at it before, along with new character banners for Captain America and Hawkeye.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel Studios presents “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on April 23rd, 2015.’

SelfLess Trailer – Ben Kingsley takes over Ryan Reynolds’ body

4th March 2015 By Tim Isaac

I’m sure there are a few people out there who wouldn’t mind waking up as Ryan Reynolds tomorrow, but it looks like Ben Kingsley is actually going to do it in Self/Less, and if you want to see how, take a look at the trailer below.

Based on an script by Alex and David Pastor (who wrote and directed the 2009 horror Carriers), the film is about a wealthy old man (Kingsley) who pays to have his mind transplanted into a younger body (Reynolds) after he realises that is dying. In a very bad turn of luck, he soon realises that the body he’s taken over is a murder victim, and the body’s killers aren’t happy to see him walking around again. The hero is then forced to go on the run and work out who’s trying to kill him.

Tarsem Singh directs the film, which should be out later this year.

Jessie Usher To Lead Independence Day Sequel – Liam Hemsworth & Jeff Goldblum also confirmed

4th March 2015 By Tim Isaac

With a confirmed 2016 release date and Fox planning to shoot in a few months time, the sequel to Independence Day needs to firm up its cast pretty quickly, and it looks like it’s doing just that, as on his Facebook page director Roland Emmerich has revealed Jessie User will take the lead role.

Usher isn’t a particularly well known name, but he’s appeared in Survivor’s Remorse and When The Game Stands Tall, among other roles.

In the Independence Day sequel he’ll play the son of Will Smith’s character from the first movie, who’s now all grown and ready to take on the alien threat himself.

Emmerich also confirmed that Liam Hemsworth, who was recently reported to be in talks for the film, will indeed be part of the cast, and that Jeff Goldblum is set to return for the follow up.

The movie is due out June 24th, 2016.
