Jeff Daniels Joins Divergent Series – He’ll be part of Allegiant

29th April 2015 By Tim Isaac

Jeff Daniels has left The Newsroom behind and following a bit of a hit with Dumb and Dumber To, he’s heading into teen action territory, as he’s signed up to star in the two-part conclusion to the Divergent series, Allegiant, according to THR.

Daniels is taking on a bit of a pivotal role, although if you don’t want to know how he fits into the world of fighting factions who don’t like those who straddle different personality types, you should stop reading now.

He’ll be David, the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, which set up the system where everyone is sorted into the factions of Abnegation, Erudite, Dauntless, Amity, and Candor. As you may have guessed, their motives in doing this may not have been totally altruistic.

The films will see Tris (Shailene Woodley) on the run and trying to figure out the mystery of the world she was born into. Allegiant: Part 1 will be out March 2016, with Part 2 coming a year later.

Win The Last Five Years On DVD! – Anna Kendrick & Jeremy Jordan star

28th April 2015 By Tim Isaac

Following its exclusive two week theatrical run in the heart of London’s West End, Icon Home Entertainment is pleased to confirm the VOD & DVD release of THE LAST FIVE YEARS. It will be available digitally from Friday May 1st and on DVD from Monday May 4th. And we’ve got a copy of the DVD to give away.

A touching story of heartbreak and passion, THE LAST FIVE YEARS is based on Jason Robert Brown’s hit off-Broadway musical of the same name, and stars Academy Award® nominee Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect, Into The Woods) and Jeremy Jordan.

Directed by Academy Award® nominee Richard LaGravenese (Ps I Love You), THE LAST FIVE YEARS is an honest and funny portrayal of the highs and lows of a five year relationship. Filled with the lively energy of New York City’s cultural milieu, the film tells the story of the relationship between rising novelist Jamie Wellerstein (Jeremy Jordan) and struggling actress Cathy Hyatt (Anna Kendrick).

As Jamie’s new novel vaults him to the top of the literary scene, Cathy is still doing summer stock in Ohio, and their diverging levels of success pose pressing and dire challenges to their love. The film tells Cathy’s side of the story in reverse order, starting from the end of their marriage, while Jamie’s version of events begins when the couple first meets.

The Visit Trailer – Plus a poster for M. Night Shyamalan’s movie

25th April 2015 By Tim Isaac

M. Night Shyamalan isn’t quite the name he was in the years after The Sixth Sense, but he’s still one of the few writer/directors who you can sell a film on the strength of their name. That certainly seems true of The Visit, which wants to suggest it’ll take us back to the world of twisty-turny thrillers he’s known for.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable) and producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge and Insidious series) welcome you to Universal Pictures’ The Visit. Shyamalan returns to his roots with the terrifying story of a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents’ remote Pennsylvania farm for a weeklong trip. Once the children discover that the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home are growing smaller every day.’

Now the first poster and trailer have arrived, which you can see above and below. It’ll be out in UK cinemas September 11th.

First Pics From Victor Frankenstein – James McAvoy & Daniel Radcliffe take on the classic tale

25th April 2015 By Tim Isaac

Over two years ago Daniel Radcliffe signed on to be the Igor in a new Frankenstein movie, and it was July 2013 when James Mcavoy joined him as the infamous mad scientist. It’s taken a while to get things together but now the movie is heading towards a September UK release, and Empire has posted the first images from the set of the film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘James McAvoy is Victor Von Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe stars as Igor in a unique, never-before-seen twist on Mary Shelley’s classic 19th century novel. Told from Igor’s perspective, we see the troubled young assistant’s dark origins, his redemptive friendship with the young medical student Victor Von Frankenstein, and become eyewitnesses to the emergence of how Frankenstein became the man—and the legend—we know today.’

McAvoy comments, “As much as the monster is his creation, Igor is his creation as well. That was quite exciting. It’s funny, the script, but also really dark, in a cool way.”

It’s an interesting idea and it’ll be interesting to see if it works. As it has a script by Max Landis (Chronicle), hopefully it will.
