Paul Rudd Joins Captain America: Civil War As Production Begins – Plus Paul Bettany and Jeremy Renner

7th May 2015 By Tim Isaac

Captain America: Civil War is increasingly turning into and Avengers movie in all but name, as while it will lack a few of the throng, such as Thor and Hulk, it’s got Iron Man and Scarlet Widow, and now it’s been confirmed it will also have The Vision (Paul Bettany), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and James ‘War Machine’ Rhodes (Don Cheadle).

To many people’s surprise, after making his Marvel Universe debut later this year in Ant-Man, Paul Rudd will also be in the new Cap film.

And while Marvel has largely ignored 2008’s The Incredible Hulk despite it being technically part of their filmic universe (even if it did have a different actor in the main role), it’s now bringing back one of that movie’s characters, William Hurt’s General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross.

The info was included in a press release announcing the start of production, which also included the following synopsis, ‘”Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.’

As that suggests, the movie will shake things up, with the fallout being seen in Avengers: Infinity War.

What isn’t known yet is who will play another character we’ve been promised for the movie, Spider-man, but presumably we’ll find out who’s playing the role very soon.

Magic Mike XXL Trailer – Channing Tatum and the stripper boys are on the road

6th May 2015 By Tim Isaac

If you’re upset that men keep their clothes on too much in the movies, Magic Mike XXL is here to help you out, and as this trailer is keen to show, this sequel will have plenty more shirtless, stripper shenanigans, while ramping the sexual suggestiveness up to 11.

What’s still not clear is the exact tone it will have. The first movie certainly had plenty of stripping, but that was placed around a rather dark, dramatic plot. Channing Tatum has given mixed responses to whether the new movie will follow suit, or if it will be more deliberately fun.

We’ll have to wait and see.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘”Magic Mike” stars Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez and Gabriel Iglesias are reuniting for the hotly anticipated sequel “Magic Mike XXL”. Joining the returning cast, in brand new roles, will be Elizabeth Banks (“The Hunger Games” franchise), Donald Glover (“Community”), Amber Heard (“The Rum Diary”), Andie MacDowell (“Footloose”), Jada Pinkett Smith (“Gotham”) and Michael Strahan (“Live with Kelly and Michael”).

‘Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, “Magic Mike XXL” finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.’

It’ll be in cinemas in July.

New Mr. Holmes Trailer – Best look yet at Ian McKellen as an aging Sherlock

6th May 2015 By Tim Isaac

It may not be a massive summer blockbuster like Age Of Ultron or Jurassic World, but in its own way Mr. Holmes is just as intriguing, with Ian McKellen playing a retired Sherlock Holmes who’s in his 90s but lured back into one last case.

We had a UK trailer a few weeks ago, but now its time for a better look with its US counterpart.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Academy Award nominee Ian McKellen takes on the iconic role of Detective Sherlock Holmes, one of the British literature’s most revered characters in the forthcoming film MR HOLMES.

‘In 1947, the world famous sleuth has retired to a remote Sussex farmhouse, living in relative anonymity with only his housekeeper Mrs Munro and her young son Roger for company. Cantankerous, demanding and frustrated with the mis-representation of him in Watson’s best-selling novels, he diverts his attention to an unsolved case. As the mystery deepens, Sherlock tries desperately to recall the events of 30 years ago that ultimately led to his retirement.

‘Starring Academy Award nominee Laura Linney (The Savages), Frances de la Tour (Harry Potter) and newcomer Milo Parker, MR HOLMES is adapted from Mitch Cullin’s 2005 novel A Slight Trick of the Mind and is directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker Bill Condon (Gods and Monsters).

MR HOLMES will be released in cinemas across the UK & Ireland on June 19th, and in the US in July.

Absolutely Anything Trailer – Simon Pegg gets whatever he wants (alongside the Monty Python team)

6th May 2015 By Tim Isaac

Ever since it was announced, Absolutely Anything has been an interesting one, not least because it reunites the Monty Python team – or at least their voices. It also got added poignancy last year when it became clear that one of Robin Williams final performances would be as a talking dog in the movie.

Now we can take a look at the movie as the first trailer arrives, which reveals a slightly British Bruce Almighty set-up (which explains why he can have such an amazing bod in the pic above), but with added aliens.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Absolutely Anything follows a disillusioned school teacher (Pegg) who suddenly finds he has the ability to do anything he wishes, a challenge bestowed upon him by a group of power-crazed aliens (voiced by Cleese, Gilliam, Jones, Palin & Idle), watching him from space.

‘As he struggles to deal with these new found powers and the events that subsequently arise, he calls upon his loyal canine companion Dennis (voiced by Robin Williams) to help him along the way.

‘Mishap after mishap finally leads him to the ultimate conundrum that all men dread and at which many have failed….should he choose the girl….or the dog….?’

The film is due in UK cinemas August 14th.

Ant-Man Gets A New Poster – It’s time for Paul Rudd & co. to look off into the distance

6th May 2015 By Tim Isaac

There comes a time in every Marvel film’s life when it needs a poster full of floating heads and bodies in an explosion of Photoshop-montage work, all while the characters look off into the middle-distance. It’s a bit daft but it works, and it has done for decades, not just for Marvel movies.

Now Ant-Man has its effort, with the costumed character himself taking centre stage, while surrounded by the likes of Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll and Michael Pena float about in the background – along with a reminder that inside the Ant-Man costume is Paul Rudd.

Take a look above.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man.” Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

‘Marvel’s “Ant-Man” stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip “Ti” Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale, Jordi Mollà as Castillo and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s “Ant-Man” delivers a high-stakes, tension-filled adventure on July 17, 2015.’
