Channing Tatum Will Have Two Kisses for Maddy – He’ll produce and may also star

31st May 2015 By Tim Isaac

Channing Tatum is certainly keen to be master of his own destiny, having produced several of his recent movies and putting several more into development. Now he’s added a new one, Two Kisses for Maddy, which he will produce and which is being put together as a possible starring vehicle.

As Variety reports, the film ‘is based on Matthew Logelin’s memoir “Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss and Love,” which centers on his marriage, the death of his wife 27 hours after she gave birth to their daughter and his experiences of raising his daughter as a single parent.’

Dana Stevens has been hired to write the screenplay.

Interestingly it almost became a Lifetime TV movie of the week a couple of years ago, but may now be getting a bit of an a-list upgrade.

American Ultra Red Band Trailer – Jesse Eisenberg & Kirsten Stewart get into some stoner action

28th May 2015 By Tim Isaac

By all accounts American Ultra is a bit of an unusual movie – part Cheech & Chong and part action thriller – which reteams Adventureland co-stars Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘”‘American Ultra’ is a fast-paced action comedy about Mike (Eisenberg), a seemingly hapless and unmotivated stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend, Phoebe (Stewart), is suddenly turned upside down. Unbeknownst to him, Mike is actually a highly trained, lethal sleeper agent. In the blink of an eye, as his secret past comes back to haunt him, Mike is thrust into the middle of a deadly government operation and is forced to summon his inner action-hero in order to survive.”

The movie is due out in both the US and UK in August.

Chris Pine Up For Wonder Woman – He’ll play the hero’s love interest

27th May 2015 By Tim Isaac

I’m hoping this doesn’t mean that despite supposedly being about a female superhero, DC is really going to make it just as much about a guy, but Variety reports that Chris Pine is in talks to join Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman.

If he does sign on, he’ll play Wonder Woman’s love interest, Steve Trevor, who, in the comic, crash lands on the Amazons’ home island of Paradise during World War II. Wonder Woman falls for him after she nurses him back to health, and then when he returns to America she follows him – becoming Diana Prince, who in true comic fashion, Steve doesn’t realise is the same person as the hero, Wonder Woman.

Things are likely to be altered for the movie, not least bringing things up to date and tying it into DC’s universe, especially as Wonder Woman will make her first appearance in next year’s Batman Vs. Superman.

It gives Pine the potential of being part of two franchises. While it’s possible he may only be in one DC movie, it may also set his up for a key role in Justice League, as in one of Steve Trevor’s comic incarnations he is one of the main liaisons between the US government, the UN and the heroes, working alongside Amanda Waller. That character will already be part of the DC film universe as Violet Davis is playing her in Suicide Squad.

Wonder Woman is due out June 2017.

Point Break Trailer – Luke Bracey and Edgar Ramirez star in the remake

27th May 2015 By Tim Isaac

The jury is still out on whether there’s any point in remaking Point Break, but we can now get a taste of the film as the trailer has arrived, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘A young FBI agent, Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey), infiltrates a cunning team of thrill-seeking elite athletes – led by the charismatic Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez). The athletes are suspected of carrying out a spate of crimes in extremely unusual ways.

Deep undercover, and with his life in imminent danger, Utah strives to prove they are the architects of this string of inconceivable crimes.

The film is replete with the most daring athleticism ever seen in a motion picture. These action adventure feats are performed by elite athletes representing the world’s best in class in big-wave surfing, wingsuit flying, sheer-face snowboarding, free rock climbing, and high-speed motorcycling.’

Ericson Core directs, with a January 8th UK release date set.

A Walk In The Woods Trailer – Robert Redford and Nick Nolte go hiking

27th May 2015 By Tim Isaac

Robert Redford’s quest to get Bill Bryson’s wonderful memoir A Walk In The Woods on the screen has been going on for so long that it was originally envisioned as a way to get him to reteam with Paul Newman (and seeing as the screen legend died in 2008, it really has been a long time).

Now though Redford has managed it, starring alongside Nick Nolte, Mary Steenburgen, Kristen Schaal and Emma Thompson, with Ken Kwapis directing.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In this new comedy adventure, celebrated travel writer, Bill Bryson (Redford), instead of retiring to enjoy his loving and beautiful wife (Emma Thompson), and large and happy family, challenges himself to hike the Appalachian Trail – 2,200 miles of America’s most unspoiled, spectacular and rugged countryside from Georgia to Maine. The peace and tranquility he hopes to find, though, is anything but, once he agrees to being accompanied by the only person he can find willing to join him on the trek – his long lost and former friend Katz (Nolte), a down-on-his-luck serial philanderer who, after a lifetime of relying on his charm and wits to keep one step ahead of the law – sees the trip as a way to sneak out of paying some debts and sneak into one last adventure before its too late. The trouble is, the two have a completely different definition of the word “adventure”. Now they’re about to find out that when you push yourself to the edge, the real fun begins. A Walk in the Woods also co-stars Nick Offerman (22 Jump Street), Kristen Schaal (“The Last Man on Earth”) and Mary Steenburgen (Last Vegas).’

It’s a great book and will hopefully make just as good a film.

The film’s due out in September.

27th May 2015 By Tim Isaac

Pawn Sacrifice has sure taken a long time to get here. Back in 2010 David Fincher toyed with helming the film, based on Steven Knight’s script, and then Ed Zwick signed up to direct Tobey Maguire in the movie way back in the summer of 2012.

It shot in 2013 premieres at TIFF at the end of last year, but it’s only now a trailer has arrived before the September US release.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In a gripping true story set during the height of the Cold War, American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer (Tobey Maguire) finds himself caught between two superpowers when he challenges the Soviet Empire. Also starring Liev Schreiber and Peter Sarsgaard, PAWN SACRIFICE chronicles Fischer’s terrifying struggles with genius and madness, and the rise and fall of a kid from Brooklyn who captured the imagination of the world.’
