A sort of Love Actually but set in America in February (rather than England at Christmas), Valentine’s Day seems to be going for the record of how many famous people you can squeeze into one movie. The ensemble rom-com from Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride director Garry Marshall stars… actually there’s no point starting a list of the famous cast names as we’ll be here all day, but head over to IMDB and take a look. Or indeed you can click below and try and spot as many as you can in the fluffy new trailer. The film is about the intersecting lives of 10 people in LA as they navigate their relationships on Valentine’s Day. Un surprisingly, the film is due out on February 12th…
Tekken Movie Trailer – The computer game goes live action, but you might wish it hadn’t
I think it’s fairly safe to say that this videogame adaptation won’t be a masterpiece. Directed by the man behind such works of genius as Anacondas: The Hunt For The Blood Orchid and Free Willy 2, the Tekken movie is a furturistic sci-fi film about a young man who discovers he holds a great power and must battle a team of elite fighters in a gladiatoral tournament called Iron Fist. Maybe it’ll be brilliant, but from the evidence of this trailer, it looks like it could be battling it out with Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun Li for the title of worst recent videogame adaptation. Tekken will be out later this year.
The Company Men Trailer – Ben Affleck and Tommy Lee Jones get fired
More a selection of footage than a trailer, the new promo for Company Men gives us our first look at the film that is due to premiere at Sundance. Ben Affleck, Chris Cooper and Tommy Lee Jones play three men who become victims of corporate downsizing and have to redefinie their lives as men, husbands and fathers. The film, directed by longtime TV producer John Wells (ER, Southland), also stars Kevin Costner and Maria Bello, and is already getting quite a lot of buzz. It should be in cinemas later this year, but click below for the trailer. Quite why we’re not allowed to hear anyone speak is anybody’s guess though.
The Ghost Writer Trailer – Despite his legal trouble, Polanski’s film is shaping up nicely
Despite having been locked up and then put under house arrest while he waits to hear whether he’ll be extradited to the US, it seems Roman Polankski’s The Ghost Writer is still on schedule. The film stars Ewan McGregor as a ghost-writer brought in to complete the memoirs of a former British Prime Minister (Pierce Brosnan), however the secrets that he uncovers put his own life in jeopardy and suggest that the death of a previous ghost-writer may not have been an accident. Based on Robert Harris’ novel and also starring the likes of Kim Cattrall, Olivia Williams and Tom Wilkinson, the trailer (which is from France but isn’t dubbed)certainly makes the thriller look like it might be good. Click below to take a look. The Ghost Writer should be out in the UK later this year.
The Lovely Bones – First Five Minutes – View the opening of Peter Jackson’s latest
As Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones hasn’t been getting any of the awards traction it had been hoping for, Paramount is now having to push harder to get people excited about the movie as it prepares to expand around the US in the next couple of weeks and hit the UK on January 29th. They’ve now released the first five minutes of the film online, which you can watch by clicking below. Although it doesn’t tell you much about the main plot, which sees a murdered girl looking down on the hunt for her killer from heaven, the footage gives you a feel for the style and mood of the movie, even if it’s not a great indication of how the whole movie pans out.
Early Ironclad Trailer – Take a look at the first two weeks of shooting on the medieval action adventure
Ironclad, about a determined group of 13th CenturyKnights Templar defends Rochester Castle against the tyrannical King John, has only recently started filming, but to get the hype building, a very early trailer, featuring footage taken from the first two weeks of filming, has been released (it seems to mention the two weeks things, just so it can suggest ‘if we’ve done this in a fortnight, imagine what the whole movie will be like!). Ironclad stars James Purefoy, Brian Cox, Paul Giamattis, Robert Carlyle, Mackenzie Crook and a lot more fairly well known names. It should be in cinemas at the end of the year, but click below for the action-packed new trailer.
