Mother Trailer – New thriller from the South Korean director of The Host

26th January 2010 By Tim Isaac

Although Joon-ho Bong’s film, Mother, was in competition at Cannes last year and screened at the London Film Festival, a UK release date still hasn’t been set. However it’s due out in the US fairly soon and so a new trailer has arrived. While the South Korean director is best known for the monster movie, The Host, Mother is a different sort of thriller, in which a man is charged with a brutal murder and his mother struggles to discover who really committed the crime and why they’re framing her child. Beyond The Pole Trailer – Stephen Mangan and Rhys Thomas get icy in new mockumentary

25th January 2010 By Tim Isaac

Britain seems to like making films about hopeless people whose hearts are in the right place. The mockumentary Beyond The Pole seems to be just such a film. Rhys Thomas and Steven Mangan star as two men who decide to launch the first carbon neutral, organic, vegetarian expedition ever to attempt the North Pole. The only problem is they have absolutely no experience. Beyond The Pole looks like it could be very funny. It’ll be showing at the Glagow Film Festival and London’s ICA Cinema in February and should reach other parts of the UK in March.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Trailer – Dealing with the difficulties of being a kid

25th January 2010 By Tim Isaac

Based on Jeff Kinney’s best-selling illustrated novels, Diary of A Wimpy Kid looks like is could be superior family fun. It follows young Greg, who’s negotating the difficulties of middle school. Told through his diaries, the film deals with the ups and down of like outside the realms of the cool kids. Although it’s familiar territory, it’s nice this is about a kid who’s a bit younger than the traditional high school outcast, and it seems as if it could be quite funny. Cyrus Trailer – John C Reilly and Jonah Hill put their indie comedy hats on

22nd January 2010 By Tim Isaac

The Duplass Brothers have gained a bit of a reputation for themeselves in the indie field following The Puffy Chair and Baghead, and now they’re going slightly more mainstream with Cyrus. John C. Reilly stars as a divorced man who’s having trouble adjusting to single life, especially as his ex (Catherine Keener) is about to remarry. Then he meets the potential woman of his dreams (Marisa Tomei). However problems arise when he meets her grown son (Jonah Hill), and the two begin to clash. A mix of broad comedy and indie sensibilities, Cyrus certainly seems like it could be worth a look. There’s no release date set as yet, but the film is premiering at Sundance.

Hot Tub Time Machine Red Band Trailer – Still not funny, even with swearing

22nd January 2010 By Tim Isaac

I think it’s safe to say that when the first Green Band trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine was released a few weeks ago, it was met with a pretty lacklustre reception. Now they’re trying to remedy that with a NSFW Red Band trailer, featuring plenty of swearing. However just because they can use the f word, doesn’t suddenly make it funny. The film follows four guys who get into a hot tub, which turns out to be a time machine that sends them back to the 1980s. Despite the presence of John Cusack, the anticipation for this one is in the negative numbers. Click below to watch the Red Band trailer. The film should be in cinemas this spring.

I’m Here Trailer – First look at Spike Jonze’s new robot-filled short

22nd January 2010 By Tim Isaac

Although this isn’t a full-on feature film, it’s still worth looking at the trailer. Spike Jonze has busied himself post-Where The Wild Things Are making a short called I’m Here. The film, about an ordinary library assistant whose eyes are opened to the power of creativity and love is given added interest by the fact most of the characters are robots. It’s certainly Jonze back exploring a strange visual world and it’ll be fascinating to see the entire thing, which premieres at Sundance. Click below to watch the trailer.
