Jason Statham gets to step into Charles Bronson’s shoes in The Mechanic, a reimagining of the 1972 Bronson movie of the same name (which was directed by Michael Winner). Statham plays an elite hitman who befriends a young man (Ben Foster) who wants to learn the trade. However it becomes clear that the apprentice may have an ulterior motive, which puts both their lives in danger. The trailer below was made more to drum up interest amongst potential distributors than for the public, but it still gives you a good idea of what Simon West’s (Con Air) film is all about. It looks like Statham’s back to doing what he does best – kicking-ass – so the film should find a distributor soon and hit cinemas before the end of the year.
The Switch Trailer – Jennifer Aniston accidentally gets Jason Bateman’s sperm
Formerly known as The Baster, The Switch is based on a rather creepy but possibly entertaining premise. Jennifer Aniston plays an unmarried 40-year-old woman who turns to a turkey baster in order to become pregnant. Seven years later, she reunites with her neurotic best friend Wally (Jason Bateman), who starts to think that in a drunken moment he replaced her preferred sperm sample with his own. Although in real life that would be grounds for a massive court case, in movie-land it’s time for a rom-com! Also starring Juliette Lewis, Patrick Wilson and Jeff Goldblum, the film hits cinemas this summer. Click below to watch the trailer.
Eat, Pray, Love Trailer – Julia Roberts goes on a post-divorce trip
This is one of those trailers that suggest the film could either be wonderful or absolutely dreadful, with little room for anything in-between. Based on the memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert, the film is about a married woman (played by Julia Roberts) who realises her life needs to go in a different direction and, after a painful divorce, takes off on a round-the-world journey of self-discovert. Although Eat, Pray, Love could be entertaining, it could also be about a myopic, tedious middle-class person who can’t conprehend anything other than themselves (which, let’s face it, most Hollywood movies are). We’ll have to wait and see what it actually is when the film hits cinemas this summer.
The Greatest Trailer – Brosnan, Sarandon, Mulligan and Johnson deal with death
It’s certainly been a bit of luck for the makers of The Greatest, that while their biggest stars before they started shooting in 2008 were Susan Sarandon and Pierce Brosnan, since then Carey Mulligan has shot into the stratosphere with An Education, Public Enemies and Brothers, while Aaron Johnson is set to be much better known following the release of Kick-Ass.
It means that while the movie has been hanging around for over a year since its Sundance 2009 premiere, it’s now getting a US release next month (although there’s still no news on when it’s coming to the UK). The film follows Allen and Grace Brewer (Brosnan and Sarandon), who are racked with grief following the death of their son (Johnson), which becomes complicated when a woman (Mulligan) turns up who’s pregnant with their son’s child. Click below to watch the trailer for what could be a very moving film.
Kick-Ass Music Video – Have a listen to Mika’s title song from the kick-ass Kick-Ass
Are you excited? It’s just over a week until Kick-Ass gets released in cinemas, and if the world is a just place, it’ll become a big hit. Just in case you don’t know, the film follows Dave Lizewski, a normal teen who decides to become a put on a costume and become a superhero, despite having no powers whatsoever. As a vigilante he gets in well over his head, while inspiring others to become heroes too. Now the music video for the title song fom the movie, sung by Mika (vs RedOne), has hit the net, so click below to have a look and a listen. Kick-Ass hits UK cinemas on March 26th.
Four Lions Trailer – Chris Morris gets controversial with British jihadis comedy
Chris Morris (of Brass Eye and The Day Today fame) doesn’t seem to like to get out of bed unless he’s doing something that can be described as edgy and controversial. His first feature film as writer/director, Four Lions, is no exception, taking the very serious subject of radicalist Muslim suicide bombers and turning it into a comedy about would-be jihadists, hampered by the fact they’re complete idiots. The film premiered to mixed reviews at Sundance, with some responding to its satrical wit, while others said it was too silly and trying to be controversial for its own sake. Now a UK trailer for the movie has popped up online, which you can watch by clicking below. The film should be in cinemas on May 7th.
So when is the Daily Mail going to start getting upset about this then?
