I think it’s safe to say that ryan Reynolds likes superheroes. He’s already got X-Men Origins: Wolverine under his belt, has Deadpool and Green Lantern coming up, and also the rather more unusual Paper Man. The indie dramedy sees Reynolds playing the costumed Captain Excellent, who isn’t your usual superhero as he only exists in the imagination of middle-aged novelist Richard (Jeff Daniels). Richard sparks up an unlikely friendship with 17-year-old Abby, who also has an imaginary friend. Together they begin to realise that perhaps its time to let their unreal mates go. There’s no UK release set for the film as yet, but click below for the quirky trailer.
The Other Guys Trailer – Ferrell and Wahlberg do their best to be action-man cops
Although Will Ferrell’s had a bit of a duff run of late, I’m holding out high hopes for The Other Guys, which reunites him with Anchorman and Step Brothers director Adam McKay. Set in New York City, The Other Guys follows Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell), a forensic accountant whos more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets, and Detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg), a tough guy who has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since an unfortunate run-in with Derek Jeter. Allen and Terry idolise the citys top cops, Danson and Highsmith (Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson), but when an opportunity arises for the Other Guys to step up, things dont quite go as planned. The comedy is due out on September 2nd in the UK, but click below for the fun first trailer for the movie.
Unthinkable Teaser Trailer – Should Sam Jackson torture Michael Sheen?
Here’s an interesting looking flick that could prove far more controversial than it might first appear. Somewhere in the United States, three nuclear weapons are about to detonate. Younger (Michael Sheen) has hidden the devices and the authorities lead by FBI agent Brody (Carrie Anne Moss) with the help of “H” ( Samuel L. Jackson), an interrogation specialist, must find them before time runs out. But if what you’re doing could save millions, how far would you go? In those circumstances is torture acceptable? Those seem to be the questions Unthinkable asks, which of course have parallels in the current world situation. Like I said, it could be controversial, or alternatively it could be complete thriller pap, but the teaser trailer certainly intrigues.
New Heartless Trailer – Jim Sturgess makes a creepy faustian pact
Written and directed by author and playwright Philip Ridley, Heartless looks like an intriguing prospect. The film follows Jamie (Jim Sturgess), a troubled young man with a birthmark on his face, which has left him feeling isolated and fearful, hiding from the world outside. He lives in the East End of London, an area notorious for its violent hooded gangs. According to news reports, the gangs are now wearing demon masks. But, one night, Jamie discovers the terrifying truth: the gangs are not wearing masks. They are real demons. Heartless, which also stars Clémence Poésy, Noel Clarke, Joseph Mawle, Eddie Marsan, Luke Treadaway and Timothy Spall, will receive an unsual multi-platform release in the UK on May 24th, when it’ll hit cinema, DVD, Blu-ray, VoD and download-to-own, all on the same day. First Toy Story 3 Clip – Ken meets Woody and co.
It might still be a few months until Toy Story 3 hits UK cinemas on July 23rd, but the first clip from the film has already appeared online. It sees Woody and co. having been accidentally donated to a kindergarten, and meeting the toys that are there, including Ken, who’s rather smitten to see Barbie for the very first time. With loads of great buzz building for Toy Story 3, this clip certainly suggests it’ll be a fitting follow-up to the first two flicks. Click below to take a look.
The Losers Alternate Trailer – The best look so far at the comic book adaptation
I have to say that I found the early promo material for The Losers rather underwhelming. The first trailer made the comic book adaptation look incredibly generic, but this new alternate take, which starts off with a clip from the film and then introduces us to the characters, is far better. The likes of Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana and Chris Evans play a CIA black ops team who were targeted for assassination and left for dead. They head back to find the man who tried to kill them, an enemy known only as Max. Directed by Sylvain White, who’s best known for the making the rather different Stomp The Yard, The Losers is set to hit UK cinemas on May 28th.
