If there’s one film in competition in Cannes that’s so far garnered more attention than any other it’s Alejandro González Iñárritu’s (Babel) Biutiful, in which Javier Bardem plays Uxbal, a survivor at the invisible margins in todays Barcelona, who tries to reconcile with love and save his children, as he tries to save himself. Involved in illegal dealing, his life changes when he is confronted by his childhood friend, who is now a policeman. The likes of THR have described it as the stand-out movie amongst a shallow crowd at the French festival, with many expecting it to pick up the Palm D’Or. Now a promo trailer has shown up online. It may be incredibly brief and not tell us much, but it gives us our first look at the film. Click below to watch.
Charlie St. Cloud Trailer – Zac Efron grows up and gets all dramatic
Zac Efron’s latest bid to be a proper grown up movie star is Charlie St. Cloud, which this trailer shows will present him in a much more dramatic and emotional mode than we’ve seen before. It certainly has the potential to be powerful, but could also easily tip into the sacharine and overblown. Zac will play the title role, a young man who’s so stricken by grief after being partially resposible for the death of his brother that he finds himself unable to move forward. He ends up getting a job as a caretaker in the cemetery his brother is buried in, which allows him to feel a special connection to his bro (his sibling even appears to him in ghostly form), but it’s a bond that tested when Charlie falls in love. Directed by Burr Steers, the film is currently scheduled for release in the UK on October 8th.

Barney’s Version International Teaser Trailer – Paul Giamatti keeps marrying the wrong women
Although it’s impossible to say how good the movie will be, Barney’s Version certainly has a great cast, with Paul Giamatti, Dustin Hoffman, Rosamund Pike, Rachelle Lefevre (who lost her role as Victoria in the Twilight films because she went off and made this movie), Minnie Driver, Mark Addy, Scott Speedman and Bruce Greenwood. The comedy follow the life of the politically incorrect and blunt Barney Panofsky (Giamatti), who has married the wrong woman twice and is hoping it’s third time lucky (except it isn’t). Iron Sky Teaser Trailer – There are Nazis on the Moon!
Here’s an intriguing one. The CG movie Iron Sky (directed by Finland’s Timo Vuorensola, best known for his Star Wreck parodies) has been doing the rounds at Cannes, looking for potential distributors, and as a result they’ve released some pretty interesting bit and pieces, including some teaser trailers. The plot for the beautiful looking movie is based on the idea that in 1945 the Nazis went to the moon in flying saucers (and they did genuinely work on flying saucer technology), and have been living on the dark side of the lunar surface ever since. However, in 2018, they’re coming back! Click below to take a look.
