Tamara Drewe Trailer – Gemma Arterton and Stephen Frears take on the graphic novel

15th June 2010 By Tim Isaac

Normally the words ‘graphic novel’ bring to mind images of sci-fi and thriller plot, but Tamara Drewe is something rather different, a graphic novel aimed largely at women, which is essentially a modern day update of Thomas Hardy’s Far From The Madding Crowd, in which sexy flirt Drewe returns to her small country village after completely transforming herself through plastic surgery and a new look. She stirs up dark passions amongst the locals, which leads to tragedy. Now the first trailer for Stephen Frear’s movie version has been released (which includes French subtitles but is in English), and shows a dark-haired Gemma Arterton causing trouble in the English countryside. The film premiered at Cannes and is currently scheduled for release in the UK on September 10th. Click below for the trailer.

Somewhere Trailer – First look at Sofia Coppola’s latest tale

15th June 2010 By Tim Isaac

Sofia Coppola likes to take her time between movies, as she’s only made  Lost In Translation and Marie Antoinette since her breakout Virgin Suicides in 1999. Now she’s got another one coming, Somewhere, which seems to once again explores the idea of fame and identity crisis she looked at in her previous films. This one stars Stephen Dorff as a hard-living Hollywood actor who re-examines his life when his 11-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning) pays him a visit. With a great soundtrack by The Strokes, the first trailer doesn’t tell us much, but then getting the feel for a Coppola movie from the trailer has always been tough. Somewhere is scheduled for release in the US at Christmas, just in time for Oscars consideration, so expect it here just afterwards.

Breathless (A bout de souffle) – 50th Anniversary Trailer – Godard’s classic is headed back to cinemas soon

14th June 2010 By Tim Isaac

On June 25th, Optimum Releasing is bringing Jean-Luc Godard’s classic Breathless (A bout de souffle) back to cinemas to celebrate its 50th Anniversary. It’s hard to believe it’s been half a century since the French new wave first made a splash, and Breathless certainly made a bigger splash than most, helped by a wonderful story from Francois Truffaut and the fact Godard was new to cinema and hadn’t completely disappeared up his own ass by this point. In the film a small time thief kills a policeman and then gets a young America jornalism student to help him evade capture. It’s both a celebration of the movies and a comment on Hollywood, and was renowned on its first release for it bold and fresh visual style. Predators TV Spot – Take a peek at the creatures the Predators have got to join the hunt

14th June 2010 By Tim Isaac

Ever since they went into production of Predators, we’ve heard tell that the movie won’t just feature the inconic aliens trying to hunt down some humans, but it’d also include some new Predator creatures that are just as dangerous. However, until now these alien animals have been kept out of the marketing, but you can catch a peek at them in this new TV spot, which suggests the humans have a lot to worry about. In the film, which hits UK cinemas on July 8th (they’re obviously presuming England won’t reach the World Cup Final on July 11th, which would severely dent their box office), the infamous dreadlocked aliens kidnap a bunch of the most bad-ass humans they can find and dump them on their planet, so they can be hunted. Click below for the new US TV spot.

Men In Black III Announcement Teaser Trailer – Will Smith promises great things before it even starts shooting

12th June 2010 By Tim Isaac

It may not have started shooting yet, but Will Smith is so excited about Men In Black III that’s he’s recorded a brief announcement trailer for it. The clip first showed up on a site called Sony Insider, and apparently debuted at a Sony 3D TV launch event (the clip below isn’t just a bit blurry because it’s a bootleg, but also because it was shot in 3D). It doesn’t tell us much, but it’s kind of fun, and it’s certainly good to see Smith back in the suit and sunglasses. Sony Insider also suggests David Koepp has now been brought it to rewrite Etan Cohen’s screenplay, and that the film will largely be set in 1969 – which may explain the rumours that Josh Brolin will play a young Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones), and also gives a hint that the plot might involve the moon landings. Men In Black III, which will indeed be shot in 3D, is due for release May 25th, 2012.

First Glimpse At Thor – ET goes on the set of the Marvel superhero movie

11th June 2010 By Tim Isaac

Marvel has been keeping the details of the Kenneth Branagh comic book movie Thor closely to their chest, and while it’s been filming for a couple of months now, the only thing we’ve officially seen is a single teaser image of Chris Hemsworth as the norse god. However Marvel has now let the Entertainment Tonight cameras onto the set to capture some behind-the-scenes footage, as well as to interview Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Kenneth Branagh, and give us out first glimpse at the likes of Anthony Hopkins in costume as Odin. Click below to check it out. Thor hits UK cinemas on May 20th, 2011.
