While UFC fighter Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson is now a much bigger name in the world of film thanks to playing BA Baracus in The A-Team, it wasn’t his first movie, and on July 26th, another film he starred in, which deals much more with his UFC roots, hits DVD. The film deals with a mixed martial art fighter (Hecotr Echevarria), who about to retire but is forced to enter a twisted world of underground fighting to save his wife’s life. Cue ultra violent fight scenes and the likes of Quinton Jackson showing what they’re made of. The trailer sure makes it look like an all action fighting extravaganza, so click below to have a watch.
Twilight: Eclipse’s Xavier Samuel In The Buff – The new vampire goes for a bit of a swim in the film Newcastle, Australia
Xavier Samuel is getting plenty of exposure at the moment as one of the new additions to The Twilight Saga in Eclipse, playing newly minted vampire Riley who helps lead Victoria’s army of newborn bloodsuckers against the Cullen clan. However a couple of years ago he was getting a different kind of exposure, playing gay and running around in the buff in the Aussie surfing flick Newcastle, Australia. Pecadillo Pictures, which recently brought the film out on DVD, has just sent over a clip of Xavier going au naturel, which they’ve released for the delectation of all the Twi-hards who’d like to see a little more of the actor (over 18s only, of course, although everything’s filmed so its safely 15 rated). Take a look at the clip below.
Newcastle, Australia has just been released on DVD from Peccadillo Pictures and is available at Amazon.co.uk
The Green Hornet International Trailer – New footage arrives from the Seth Rogen superhero flick
There was a decidedly mixed reaction to the first Green Hornet trailer, which ranged from pleasant surprise that it looked more fun than the rumours the entire thing was a disaster had suggested, to those utterly non-plussed, as they were hoping a director like Michel Gondry would do something a little less generic (although from a trailer, it’s difficult to tell whether either the good or the bad is true, as it’s basically just what a marketing department wants to show us).
Now a new international trailer has arrived, which is similar to the previous one but also has some new footage. So take a look below and see what you think. The Green Hornet arrives in cinemas January 14th, 2011.
New Get Low Trailer – Robert Duvall wants the best funeral ever (and to be alive to see it)
Although it’s not the sort of movie that’s ever going to be a big hit, Get Low is undoubtedly a rather intriguing proposition and looks like it could be very good. Loosely based on the true story of a hermit who lived for 40 years in the Tennessee woods, Felix Bush (Robert Duvall) decides it is time to plan his funeral, but he wants to be alive to see it. Organised by a local undertaker, played by Bill Murray, and his sidekick, played by Lucas Black, the funeral will be more party than memorial and an event to which anyone and everyone will be invited and at which Bush will reveal a long kept secret. The film is due out in the US on July 30th, but as yet no UK release has been set.
New Charlie St. Cloud Trailer – Zac Efron gets serious
It’s always annoying when a girl comes between you and your relationship with you dead brother, and that’s what Zac Efron has to deal with in Charlie St. Cloud. Zac will play the title role, a young man who’s so stricken by grief after being partially responsible for the death of his brother that he finds himself unable to move forward. He ends up getting a job as a caretaker in the cemetery his brother is buried in, which allows him to feel a special connection to his bro (his sibling even appears to him in ghostly form and they play baseball every day), but it’s a bond that’s tested when Charlie falls in love. Burr Steers (17 Again) directs, with the film currently scheduled for release in the UK on October 8th. Click below for the new trailer, which shows Efron trying to be all grown up and serious.
The Dry Land Trailer – The difficulties of returning from Iraq
While Brothers has already tried to deal with the difficulties of coming back from modern war, it wasn’t very good, so maybe The Dry Land can do it a bit better. James (Ryan ONan) returns from Iraq to face a new battle, reintegrating into his small-town life in Texas. His wife (America Ferrera), his mother (Melissa Leo), and his friend (Jason Ritter) provide support, but they cant fully understand the pain and suffering he feels since his tour of duty ended. Lonely, James reconnects with an army buddy (Wilmer Valderrama), who provides him with compassion and camaraderie during his battle to process his experiences in Iraq. But their reunion also exposes the different ways that war affects people, at least on the surface. There’s no UK release date set as yet, but click below for the trailer.
