Howl Trailer – Take a look at James Franco in the Allan Ginsberg biopic

15th July 2010 By Tim Isaac

While Howl got a great response when it debuted at Sundance in January, it’s still the sort of film that’s gonna be a tough sell, partly because not everyone has heard of Allan Ginsberg and also because the fact he was a bisexual poet will turn a lot of people off (the poet part more than the bisexual), whether it should or not. However while it’s yet to get a UK cinema release date, it’s pencilled in for September 24th in the US, and to try and get people interested – and to suggest it’s about more than just poetry – they’ve released a rather cool 60s-vibe trailer. The film focusses on the reaction to the publication of Ginsberg’s (played by James Franco) Howl, which is now considered amongst the greatest works of the beat generation, but at the time was the centre of an obscenity trial, much of which centred on the line “who let themselves be fucked in the ass by saintly motorcyclists, and screamed with joy”. Scott Pilgrim Trailer Remix: Prepare To Feel The Wrath – Mixmaster Osymyso gets his hands on the upcoming film

15th July 2010 By Tim Isaac

They’re certainly upping the cool factor for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, ensuring that even before people have seen the film, it’s looking like just about the funkiest flick around this summer. Now Empire has debuted the first of a series of remixed trailers for the film, which utilise the talents of DJ and bastard pop superemo Osymyso. which features footage from the film, mixed with Bass Battle from Nigel Godrich’s film score. Osymyso has worked with Scott Pilgrim director Edgar Wright before, producing the Shaun Of The Dead soundtrack and having a song included in Hot Fuzz, so it’s not that surprising he’s involved here too. The first remixed Scott Pilgrim trailer is a lot of fun, helping us to prepare for the wrath of the league of evil exes! And to hear about the other remix trailers as they go live, follow the Scott Pilgrim ComicCon Twitter Feed.

Inception Prologue Comic Online – What did DiCaprio’s character get up to before the film?

14th July 2010 By Tim Isaac

I think it’s safe to say Inception is going to be big. There’s massive amounts of interest in the film, and indeed when we put our Inception review online yesterday, it got more first day reads than any other review we’ve ever posted. With so much interest in the film, Yahoo Movies has debuted a 19-page prologue, called Inception: The Cobol Job, to get you even more excited about the movie. It tells the story of the job Leo DiCaprio’s character and his team are involved in during the run up to the opening of the movie. It was written by Jordan Goldberg, and features art by Long Vo, Joe Ng, and Crystal Reid. You can read it either by heading over to Yahoo Movies and viewing it through their in-built reader, or they’ll let you download it as a PDF. So head on over and take a look.

Devil Trailer – Has M. Night Shyamalan still got the touch as a creator-producer?

14th July 2010 By Tim Isaac

Although many feel M. Night Shyamalan has lost his touch as a writer-director (even if The Last Airbenber has done okay at the box office, it got horredous reviews), his films do always have interesting ideas. As a result, the deal he put together with Universal to create and produce films – but not write or direct them – under The Night Chronicles banner, sounds like a great idea. The first of these films is Devil, based on a story by Shyamalan, but written by Brian Nelson and directed by Quarantine’s Dowdle brothers. The movie is about a group of people trapped in an elevator, and one of them may be the Devil! Although that sounds like a bit of a limited set-up, the trailer suggests it might actually be better than you might expect. Devil is due in cinemas later this year, but click below for the first trailer.

It’s Kind Of A Funny Story Trailer – Zach Galifianakis and co. have fun on the mental ward

14th July 2010 By Tim Isaac

There’s always interest in what Half Nelson and Sugar writer-directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden are getting up, as they’ve developed a suprisingly large following for a couple of fairly new indie auteurs. Their latest flick is It’s Kind Of A Funny Story, based on Ned Vizzini’s semi-autobiographical novel about a teen called Craig (Keir Gilchrist) who checks himself into a mental health facility to deal with his stress and despression, but ends up on the adult ward because the teen ward is being renovated. There he meets many people with all sorts of problems, including Bobby (Zach Galifianakis), who becomes a kind of protege as Craig deals with this issues and sparks a fledling romance with fellow teen patient Noelle (Emma Roberts). The film is due out later this year (no specific UK release date is yet set), but click below for the trailer.
