Last year it was announced that Roland Joffe (The Mission) had been hired to make a movie about controversial Opus Dei founder, Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer. It was pitched, in the backer’s words, as ‘a sympathetic portrayal of the Catholic organization, bravely contradicting the sentiment set by Dan Browns The Da Vinci Code.’ So no killer albino monks here. Instead Charlie Cox (Stardust) stakes on the lead role of the Opus Dei founder, who set up the organisation in 1928 as a way for Catholics to learn to sanctify themselves without abandoning secular life, bringing God into everything they do (although it’s this strictness over people’s lives, combined with its secrecy, that’s caused controversy). The film, funded by Opus Dei itself, also stars Wes Bentley and Dougray Scott, and now the first trailer has arrived, which you can see below. There Be Dragons isn’t not likely to assuage Opus Dei critics, who are wary of the group’s recruiting practices and are bound to see the film as a two-hour promo, but it might be an interesting counterpoint to the controversy that has surrounded the organisation for years.
Green Lantern Comic-Con Highlights Footage – Including Ryan Reynolds taking the Lantern’s oath
Rather than just waiting for fan footage to hit the net, Warner Bros has decided to produce its own highlights reel for Green Lantern at Comic-Con, featuring footage from the booth (incuding the model of Abin-Sur in his pod), the cast signing, and the movie’s panel. However perhaps the most interesting thing amongst the featurette, is our first taste of Ryan Reynolds delivering the famous Green Lantern oath. Click below to take a look.
Six Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Film Clips – Prepare yourself for next month’s geek movie explosion
The excitement is certainly revving up for the August 25th release of Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, and while the jury is still out on whether the word of how cool it looks has spread to the wider world (if not, you’d better start telling people), amongst fanboys and movie geeks the anitcipation is garganutuan. So to help you with the wait until the release, or perhaps just make it worse, we’ve comes across six clips from the movie that we’ve posted below. Interestingly, while earlier clips and trailers focussed on the action, these take more of a look at the quieter moments and the film’s humour. The movie itself sees Michael Cera’s title character, Scott Pilgrim, falling for a girl called Ramona, but discovering he can only date her if he defeats her seven evil exes.
Tron Legacy Comic-Con Panel – The cast and crew talk about the upcoming flick
Wanna know more about Tron Legacy? Well, you’ve come to the right place, as we’ve got the footage below from the film’s panel at Comic-Con, where the cast and crew talk about the film, with the likes of Jeff Bridges, Michael Sheen, Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner, Garrett Hedlund and director Joseph Kosinski on hand for the panel. The footage is split into three videos, but you can see them all below. The only thing that’s rather annoying is that while at the end Kosinski talks about how he brought eight minutes of footage to show people in the hall, we don’t get to see that.
Cowboys & Aliens Comic-Con Panel Footage – Jon Favreau and co. talk up their upcoming film
Jon Favreau is so beloved at Comic-Con that he wouldn’t even need to have a film coming up to fill the auditorium. The fact you get the impression he’s be in the audience if he wasn’t on stage, definitely helps, and ensured he got a great response for his Cowboys & Aliens panel, where he talked about the western/alien invasion flick, and wheeled out Daniel Craig, Olivia Wide, Sam Rockwell and Harrison Ford (on his first Comic-Con visit) to talk about the film. The footage of the panel is split into three vids, which are all embedded below, so take a look.
