127 Hours Trailer – First look at Danny Boyle’s latest

25th August 2010 By Tim Isaac

Whatever Danny Boyle decided to do after the Oscar-winning triumph of Slumdog Millionaire was gonna elicit a lot of interest, and it took a few people by surprise when he announced that with the movie world at his feet, his next movie would be about a man who has his arms trapped under a rock for most of the running time.

127 Hours follows the true story of Aron Ralston, who went hiking in Utah in 2003, got his arms trapped under a boulder, and stayed there for five days before realising he’d have to hack off his own limb if he wanted to survive. The movie is set to close the London Film Fiestival in October, and now the first trailer has emerged online. However it’ll be interesting to see whether this rather dynamic ,all-action trailer actually reflects a film that sounds like it’s gonna be a bit more static in reality. It does make 127 Hours look pretty cool though, even if it does only take us up to the moment where Ralston’s arm gets trapped.

Another Year Trailer – Take a look at Mike Leigh’s new flick

24th August 2010 By Tim Isaac

There’s no one quite like Mike Leigh, so anytime he makes a movie it’s a time for celebration. His latest, Another Year, premiered at Cannes, and now the trailer for the movie has arrived. As always, Leigh’s movies aren’t the easiest to to sell, as they don’t tend to have high-concept stories it’s easy to put across in the trailer, but with a strong cast and great feel, this promo is still a winner. The movie revolves around married couple Tom and Gerri (Jim Broadbent and Ruth Sheen), examining their lives and the lives of those around them, as they deal with aging and realise they’re going from late middle-age into being ‘old’.

Night Of The Demons – Red Band Trailer – Blood, guts, sex, demons and lesbianism!

20th August 2010 By Tim Isaac

Adam Gierasch’s remake of the 1988 horror movie Night Of The Demons has been biding its time until its release, premiering at horror festivals last year, but only now gearing up to hit UK cinemas on September 15th (and on DVD on October 11th, just in time for Halloween). Now a new red band trailer has emerged online, showing that like the original, it’s got its tongue planted firmly in its cheek, with Edward Furlong, Shannon Elizabeth and co. at a Halloween party, having to fend off a pack of demons. The blood-soaked, sexy trailer sure lays on the gore, and makes the film look like it could be pretty entertaining, if incredibly cheesy.

Vanishing On 7th Street Trailer – Hayden Christensen is nearly the last man on Earth

19th August 2010 By Tim Isaac

It’s a bit difficult to know what to think about Vanishing On 7th Street from this trailer. Tthe opening, which concentrates on empty city streets as a small group of people realise everyone else on the planet seems to have disappeared, looks very cool. However the stuff about having to stay near a light source or something unpleasant will happen is just a bit cheesy. However as the film, which stars Hayden Christensen, John Leguizamo and Thandie Newton, is from Machinist and Transsiberian director Brad Anderson, hopefully he’ll be bringing something interesting to the mix. Fair Game Trailer – Watts and Penn star in the Doug Liman thriller

19th August 2010 By Tim Isaac

There were mixed reports on Doug Liman’s Fair Game at Cannes, but from this trailer is looks like it could be pretty good. The Doug Liman directed thriller is based on the true story of Valerie Plame (Naomi Watts), a covert officer in the CIA’s Counter-Proliferation Division. However after her husband, diplomat Joe Wilson (Sean Penn), writes a piece in the New York Times about how the US government ignored his findings about an alleged sale of enriched uranium to Iraq in order to support their desire for war, Plame’s status as a CIA agent is leaked (presumably for political ends), putting her and her contacts in mortal danger. 19th August 2010 By Tim Isaac

Juliette Binoche won Best Actress at the Cannes FIlm Festival for Certified Copy, and we’ll be able to see if she deserved it for ourselves when Abbas Kiarostami’s movie hits UK cinemas on September 3rd. Set over the course of one day, James Miller (William Shimell) is an English writer in Tuscany to promote his new book. There, they are mistaken for a married couple. On the insistence of the woman they keep up the pretence, but as time goes on we realise that there may be more to their seemingly new relationship than meets the eye. Click below for the trailer.
