It’s only a couple of months until The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader arrives in cinemas on December 9th, and now a new foriegn trailer has popped up, which continues the theme of making the movie look a whole lot more exciting and action packed than the slightly tedious and self-important Prince Caspian. The trailer also gives us our first brief look at Cousin Eustace (played by Son Of Rambow’s Will Poulter), who’s a fairly important character in the Narnia mythology, but has so far been pretty much ignored in the promotion of Dawn Treader. Plus, Tilda Swinton is back tempting Edmund as the White Witch. This time around Edmund, Lucy and their cousin Eustace get sucked into the magical realm, and head off on the ship, the Dawn Treader, helping Caspian find the seven lost Lords of Narnia. Take a look below for the new trailer.
Faster – Red Band Trailer – The Rock gets violent
They’re really selling the revenge exploitation vibe with Faster, as this trailer sees Dwayne Johnson blowing all and sundry away on his mission of vengeance, while there’s also the suggestion of plenty of action and a bit of sex. The film, directed by Geroge Tillam Jr. (Notorious), is about an ex-con (Dwayne Johnson), simply known as Driver, who sets out to avenge his brother’s death after they were double-crossed during a heist years ago. However, with Driver going on a single-minded revenge rampage, he’s soon being tracked by a veteran cop and an egocentric hit man. Faster is due out in November, but click below for the Red Band trailer.
The Tempest Trailer – Helen Mirren takes on Prospero in Julie Taymor’s film
While Julie Taymor (director of the stage version of The Lion King), has yet to make a movie that’s been a complete success, Titus, Frida and Across The Universe all showed huge imagination. Now she’s taking on Shakespeare’s The Tempest, and if this trailer is anything to go go, it’ll once more show off Taymor’s unique imagination. In a bit of gender-bending, Helen Mirren takes on the now female sorceress Prospera, whose journey spirals through vengeance to forgiveness as she reigns over a magical island, cares for her young daughter, Miranda, and unleashes her powers against shipwrecked enemies in this exciting, masterly mix of romance, tragicomedy and the supernatural. The movie also stars Russell Brand, Reeve Carney, Tom Conti, Chris Cooper, Alan Cumming, Djimon Hounsou, Felicity Jones, Alfred Molina, David Strathairn, and Ben Whishaw. It should be in UK cinemas early next year.
Extended True Grit Trailer – Longer look at the Coen Brothers’ latest
When the trailer for True Grit was released online last week, rumours almost immediately started flying that a longer version was going to be issued to US cinemas over the weekend. That turned out to be true, and now the full trailer has been released on the web, giving us an even better look at the Coen Brother’s take on the story best known from John Wayne’s Oscar-winning 1969 film. Jeff Bridges takes on Wayne’s role of Rooster Cogburn, a past-his-prime gunslinger, who is hired by young Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) to go into Indian territory and track down her father’s killer. The Coens’ film is said to cleave closer to the original book than the John Wayne flick, telling the story through Mattie’s eyes. True Grit, which also stars Matt Damon and Josh Brolin, will hit UK cinemas on January 14th, 2011.
Burke & Hare Trailer – First look at Pegg and Serkis in John Landis’ new film
There’s been a lot of interest in Burke & Hare, partly because it’s John Landis’ first proper movie for over a decade, and takes him back to the comedy horror genre. Now the first trailer for the film has shown up online, which suggests a more knockabout comedy vibe than An American Werewolf In London. Indeed, with Simon Pegg starring, it’s difficult not to think it’s a little bit Shaun Of The Dead in tone, but with period costumes. The movie is a comedy take on real life figures Burke and Hare, who realised there was money to be made in 19th Century Scotland selling cadavers to medical schools, but they went beyond grave-robbing when they started killing people to profit from their bodies. Click below to take a look at the trailer. The film hits UK cinemas on October 29th.
The Troll Hunter Trailer – The fairytale creatues get the mock-doc treatment
Now here’s a movie that looks like it could be silly but rather fun, positing an alternate world that’s much like our own, but where trolls really do live under the bridges. The mock documentary sees a group of people heading off to find these strange creatures, which the Norweigan government is well aware exist, but which they keep hidden in the far north, in order to prevent panic. The film could be immensely entertaining and has pretty good special effects, so click below to take a look.
