Faster – Green Band Trailer – New look at the Dwayne Johnson action revenge flick

13th October 2010 By Tim Isaac

Dwayne Johnson sure seems to have a lot of anger he needs to express in Faster, at least if this latest trailer is anything to go by! While we had a far more violent Red Band promo a couple of weeks ago, this one if Green band and shows more of the plot. The film, directed by Geroge Tillam Jr. (Notorious), is about an ex-con (Dwayne Johnson), simply known as Driver, who sets out to avenge his brother’s death after they were double-crossed during a heist years ago. However, with Driver going on a single-minded revenge rampage, he’s soon being tracked by a veteran cop and an egocentric hit man. Faster is due out in November, but click below for the new trailer.

Blue Valentine Trailer – Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams star in the accidentally controversial flick

12th October 2010 By Tim Isaac

Blue Valentine has found itself mired in inadvertent controversy after it was given a NC-17 rating in the US, for one particular sex scene. Although not graphic, the scene is awkward to watch, and so the MPAA gave it the kiss-of-death rating, which the makers are now likely to try and fight. You certainly would expect controversy from this trailer, which doesn’t tell you much about the plot, but suggest some sort of love story. The films starts Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams as a married couple, charting their relationship over the course of several years. For more info on why the movie got an NC-17 rating, head over to Deadline.

New Trailer For The Dilemma – And the Vince Vaughn promo has been de-gayed

11th October 2010 By Tim Isaac

Who’d have thought a trailer for a little Ron Howard comedy could set off a mini firestorm of controversy. Shortly before this trailer for The Dilemma debuted online, GLAAD (the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) sent out a letter admonishing Universal for opening the promo with the line “Ladies and gentlemen, electric cars… are gay. I mean, not ‘homosexual’ gay, but, you know, ‘my parents are chaperoning the dance’ gay.” GLAAD said “The use of the word ‘gay’ in this trailer as a slur is unnecessary and does nothing more than send a message of intolerance about our community to viewers.”

The issue is particularly pressing in the US at the moment, following publicity about a string of teens who’ve killed themselves due to bullying and worries about their sexuality, with many suggesting the casual use of the word gay in a negative contect has increased the pressure on young people trying to come to terms with their new identity.

While GLAAD received a preview copy and expressed their concerns, the studio put the trailer in cinemas anyway, leading CNN’s Anderson Cooper to denounce it on Ellen Degeneres’ chat show. So now the new promo has gone online and it’s been de-gayed. While it does seem a bit of a storm in a teacup, it highlights issues that are well worth addressing, as Hollywood still treats everything homosexual as something it’s okay to laugh at with impunity, in a way they would never do with most minorities. It’ll be interesting to see whether the de-gaying of the trailer means the joke won’t appear in the film either.

Take a look at the new trailer for the movie below.

The Way Back Trailer – Take a look at the latest film from Peter Weir

11th October 2010 By Tim Isaac

Peter Weir doesn’t make that many movies, but when he does they’re nearly always worth a look. Weir’s first flick since 2003’s Master & Commander is The Way Back, starring Colin Farrell, Ed Harris, Saorise Ronan and Jim Sturgess. It’s a fast based tale of a group of soldiers who escaped from a Siberian gulag in 1940 and try to make their way home across some of the harshest terrain on Earth. The trailer certainly makes it look exciting, and having Weir’s name on the credits ensures it’s one to watch out for. The film is hoping to be in contention for Oscars, so expect it to hit the UK early next year.

Second 127 Hours Trailer Arrives – Take a fresh look at Danny Boyle’s latest

8th October 2010 By Tim Isaac

It seems Fox is having a bit of a tricky time marketing 127 Hours, as while reports suggest that nearly the entire running time is James Franco stuck with his arms under a boulder, both the first trailers have given the impression of something far more action packed, although as least this promo does give a bit more of a sensation that we’ll be seeing a lot of Franco in a crevice. 127 Hours follows the true story of Aron Ralston, who went hiking in Utah in 2003, got his arms trapped under a boulder, and stayed there for five days before realising he’d have to hack off his own limb if he wanted to survive. The film will be in UK cinemas on January 7th.
