A couple of months ago a teaser trailer for Sucker Punch arrived, which was certainly a visual feast, but told us absolutely nothing about the movie, other than that it looked completely mental and was full of Zack Snyder’s trademark speed-up slow-down action sequences. Now a new, longer trailer has arrived, and while still pretty spectacular and frenetic, it also gives us more of a feel for the story of a film that’s been described as ‘Alice In Wonderland with guns’. Sucker Punch sees Emily Browning’s Baby Doll confined to a mental institution, and from there retreating into an alternate fantasy universe, where all those around her become part of her delusion, with Babydoll looking for a handful of objects that will allow her to escape. Take a look at the new trailer below. Sucker Punch hits cinemas on March 25th, 2011.
New Gulliver’s Travels Trailer – Jack Black has fun with the little people
Fox has had a fair amount of success with live action family comedies such as Night At The Museum and Alvin And The Chipmunks, and they’re now hoping to continue that with Gulliver’s Travels, which updates Jonathan Swift’s story (but only deals with the bit about Lilliputians). Jack Black stars as wannabe travel writer Lemuel Gulliver, who heads to Barbados but ends up in Lilliput instead after his boat is caught up in a massive storm. Unlike the first trailer from a few months ago, a lot more of the effects are now complete, giving us a better look at the movie, showing just how Gulliver has to deal with being a truly big guy, even though he still feels small and insignificant inside. The film hits cinemas this Christmas, but click below for the new trailer.
London Boulevard Trailer – Colin Farrell goes all cockney in a new gangster flick, with Keira Knightley
If there’s one genre that’s been a stalwart for the British film industry it’s gangster flicks, which seem perenially popular. The latest addition is London Boulevard, which stars Colin Farrell as a man newly released from prison who falls in love with a reclusive young movie star (Keira Knightley) and finds himself in a duel with a vicious gangster (Ray Winstone). The first trailer has now arrived, and it’s certainly got plenty of ‘cor blimey guvnor’ about it, as well as some very big handguns. Interestingly it’s based on a book by Ken Bruen, who also wrote Blitz, and we got the trailer for the film adaptation of that, starring Jason Statham and Paddy Considine, yesterday.
Blitz Trailer – Brit grit, grime and serial killers with Jason Statham
Jason Statham and Paddy Considine are getting into a bit of British crime with Blitz, based on Ken Bruen’s novel. The film sees Statham as an old-school tough cop, who’s assigned, along with his new by-the-book partner (Considine) to investigate a serial killer who seems to be targeting policeman. The movie, which is the first to be produced rather than just distributed by Lionsgate UK, looks like is could be tough, gritty fun, and now the first trailer for the movie has arrived, which you can see below. Blitz will be in cinemas next year.
The Green Hornet Featurette – Black Beauty – Everything you need to know about the iconic car
There’s still a lot of uncertainty about The Green Hornet. The fact the movie was delayed from last summer to next January, as well as reports Sony was worried it was a disaster, suggest it may be in trouble, however the studio says it’s more than happy and the extra time was to get the effects work done. While we’ll have to wait and see whether it is any good or not, the promotion is ramping up, with a new featurette focussing on the character’s iconic car, Black Beauty, showing up online, which you can watch below. In The Green Hornet, Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) is the son of LA’s most prominent and respected media magnate and perfectly happy to maintain a directionless existence on the party scene until his father (Tom Wilkinson) mysteriously dies, leaving Britt his vast media empire. Striking an unlikely friendship with one of his father’s more industrious and inventive employees, Kato (Jay Chou), they see their chance to do something meaningful for the first time in their lives: fight crime. But in order to do this, they decide to become criminals themselves protecting the law by breaking it, Britt becomes the vigilante The Green Hornet as he and Kato hit the streets. The film is due out January 14th, 2011.
New Skyline Clip – Beware the alien beasties
I’m quite looking forward to Skyline, even if all the trailers have shown us are people running away from alien beasties that are trying to abducts the world’s population. Hopefully there’s a bit more story than that, but hey, it worked for Cloverfield. Now a fun new clip from the film has shown up over at Moviefone (it’s embedded below), showing some of the cast attempting to escape a creature that’s not too happy to have them around. The movie’s out on November 12th, but take a look below to get a bit of a preview of the Strause borthers’ film). Skyline itself sees a group of friends awoken in the dead of the night by an eerie light beaming through the window. Like moths to a flame, the light source is drawing people outside before they suddenly vanish into the air. They soon discover an extraterrestrial force is swallowing the entire human population off the face of the earth. Now a band of survivors must fight for their lives as the world unravels around them.
