First Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Trailer – Jack Sparrow returns in the official UK promo

14th December 2010 By Tim Isaac

As promised, Disney has released the first UK trailer for Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which starts off with Jack Sparrow welcoming us back to the fantastical Pirates world, before launching into a whole bunch of footage from the new movie. Unsurprisingly, as the film is still shooting, there aren’t many completed special effects, but we do get to see Ian McShane as Blackbeard and Penelope Cruz as his daughter.

Take a look below for the official synopsis, and underneath that watch the rather lengthy trailer.

Official Synopsis: ‘Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise—this time in Disney Digital 3D™. Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise.  When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love—or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more:  Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

‘The international cast includes franchise vets Geoffrey Rush as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa, and Kevin R. McNally as Captain Jack’s longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs, plus Sam Claflin as a stalwart missionary and Astrid Berges-Frisbey as a mysterious mermaid.

‘Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds himself on an unexpected journey to the fabled Fountain of Youth when a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz) forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane).’

Sucker Punch Featurette – Fight For Freedom – Take an inside look at Zack Snyder’s fantastical new film

14th December 2010 By Tim Isaac

It’s only a few months now until Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch hits cinemas on April 1st, and now a new featurette has shown up online to help introduce us to the movie’s rather insane looking world! As with 300 and Watchmen, it seems the movie is going to be filled with gorgeous looking slo-mo then fast-mo images, but this featurette wants to tell us it also has a plot!

Take a look at the offical synopsis below, and the new featurettes, which includes plenty of new footage, underneath that.

Official Synopsis: ‘Sucker Punch is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, and her incredible adventures blur the lines between what’s real and what is imaginary.

‘She has been locked away against her will, but Babydoll (Emily Browning) has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four other young girls—the outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), the street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), the fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and the reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish)—to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm).

‘Led by Babydoll, the girls engage in fantastical warfare against everything from samurais to serpents, with a virtual arsenal at their disposal. Together, they must decide what they are willing to sacrifice in order to stay alive. But with the help of a Wise Man (Scott Glenn), their unbelievable journey—if they succeed—will set them free.’

Abel UK Trailer – Diego Luna makes his fiction feature directorial debut

14th December 2010 By Tim Isaac

Diego Luna certainly isn’t afraid to challenge himself. The actor made his first foray into directing with the documentary J.C. Chavez and has now turned to fiction for Abel, which will open in the UK on January 7th. Christopher Ruiz-Esparza (a mere 9 years of age at the time of filming) stars as Abel, a young boy whose confounding behaviour and refusal to speak has landed him in a mental health facility. His single mother is convinced that a reunion between Abel and his younger brother and older sister would be the answer to repairing his condition, so she arranges for Abel’s doctor to release the boy for a single week. Abel starts speaking the day after returning home but the joy of the mother quickly turns into confusion as the child starts speaking and behaving as a fully-grown adult – her missing partner. Not wishing to worsen his condition the mother and the siblings go along with Abel’s unorthodox, strange behaviour. But then his father decides to show up… Disturbing, surreal and darkly funny, Abel deals with an important issue in Mexico – parental absenteeism – increasingly common as many Mexican men abandon their families to find work in the United States. Kill The Irishman Trailer – Mob wars in 70s Cleveland with Ray Stevenson and Vinnie Jones

13th December 2010 By Tim Isaac

It seems killing a mobster is a tough business, or at least it appears so from the rather fun trailer for Kill The Irishman, Based on the true story, over the summer of 1976, 36 bombs detonated in the heart of Cleveland while a turf war raged between Irish mobster Danny Greene (Ray Stevenson) and the Italian mafia. The film chronicles Greene’s rise from a tough Cleveland neighborhood to become an enforcer in the local mob. Turning the tables on loan shark Shondor Birns (Christopher Walken) and allying himself with gangster John Nardi (Vincent D’Onofrio), Greene stops taking orders from the mafia and pursues his own power. Surviving countless assassination attempts from the mob and killing off anyone who went after him in retaliation, Danny Greene’s infamous invincibility and notorious fearlessness eventually led to the collapse of mafia syndicates across the U.S. and also earned him the status of the man the mob couldn’t kill. It should be in cinemas next spring.

Thor Trailer Is Here – The first official teaser for the massive Marvel movie arrives

11th December 2010 By Tim Isaac

Yet another major trailer is here following Transformers 3 and Real Steel, as well as next Monday’s release of a Pirates of the Caribbean 4 teaser. This time it’s Thor! Although somewhat similar to the extended Comic-Con trailer we saw earlier this year (which showed up online, even though it was never officially release), there’s a fair bit of new footage, more special effects (and more polished versions of what we’ve seen before). It’s also slightly less camper that the ealier trailer, although whether that reflects the final film or criticism of the earlier trailer is difficult to tell. Either way it looks like fun! Click below to take a look. Thor is due in UK cinemas April 29th, 2011.
