Mars Needs Moms ‘Stay Cool’ Trailer – Another look at the upcoming Disney animated adventure

23rd February 2011 By Tim Isaac

A few days ago, a new trailer for Mars Needs Moms arrived, but apparently Disney didn’t think just one new promo was enough, so now they’ve released another one, dubbed the stay cool trailer. It may feature the worst song the world has ever heard, but it does make the mo-cap CGI flick look kind of fun. Using the same motion-capture technology as the likes of A Christmas Carol (although directed by Simon Wells, rather than Robert Zemeckis), Mars Needs Moms tells the story of nine-year-old Milo, who finds out just how much he needs his mom when she’s nabbed by Martians who plan to steal her mom-ness for their own young. Milo embarks on a quest to save his mother– a wild adventure that involves stowing away on a spaceship, navigating an elaborate, multi-level planet and taking on the alien nation and their leader. The movie hits cinemas on April 8th.

West Is West Trailer – The belated East Is East sequel is nearly here

22nd February 2011 By Tim Isaac

12 years is a long time to wait for a sequel, especially when no one was exactly crying out for it, and many have forgotten about the first film, but 1999’s East Is East was fun, so why not make a follow-up as long as it works? The film, West Is West, is out on Friday, and while the first film dealt with being a Pakistani immigrant (and the children of an immigrant) in 1970s Britain, the sequel sees George Khan feeling his youngest son Sajid has completely lost touch with his heritage, so it’s time to take him on a trip to Pakistan. However George has a wife and daughters on the subcontinent that he abandoned 35 year before and who he’ll now have to deal with, while his English wife, Ella, decides she’d better follow her hubby across the world, to help sort things out. Take a look at the trailer below.

Apollo 18 Trailer – What if NASA had found aliens on the moon?

21st February 2011 By Tim Isaac

While most films take aeons to get from being announced to hitting cinemas, Apollo 18 was first mentioned last November, and since then shooting has completed, post-production has been moving fast and it’ll be in US cinemas in March (April 22nd in the UK). That’s all pretty quick, and it could do that because it’s a ‘found footage’ project (and therefore doesn’t have to look too polished), supposedly consisting of film from a secret NASA mission to the moon, which found evidence of alien life on the lunar surface. Now the trailer is here, and to be honest, despite being produced by Timur Bekmambetov, it does look a little cheap and cheerful. However with so little time, it’s likely there’s still a lot of work to be done, so perhaps the final flick won’t be as seemingly cheesy.

Hall Pass Red Band Trailer – The Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis comedy gets a lot ruder

21st February 2011 By Tim Isaac

It’s sometimes shocking how different a safe for the family Green Band trailer can make a movie look from the potty-mouth antics of a Red Band trailer, and Hall Pass is no exception. The Green Band trailer, released a few weeks ago made it seem like a slightly bawdy but sweet natured romp, while this new Red Band promo is basically a stream of dick and vagina jokes, with barely a hint that the movie will also have a plot. However just seeing the Farrely Brother’s name on the credits ought to be enough to tell people there’ll be plenty of sexual humour.

Hall Pass sees horny men Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis given a week-off their marriage by their wives. Inevitably though, it turn out that seven days of freedom to engage in debaucherous drinking and anonymous sex isn’t as great as it sounds. The movie is due out on February 25th, 2011, but click below for the NSFW trailer.

New Thor Trailer – The culture clash of being a god on Earth

18th February 2011 By Tim Isaac

While the first official trailer for Thor was more or less rehashed footage from last year’s Comic Con, but with a few more special effects thrown in, a new trailer has arrived which is almost all stuff we haven’t seen before. It’s kind of intriguing actually, as Thor’s problem is that unlike most previous superhero movies, it’s bringing in a fantasy/magic element, but that still needs to link into what’s happening elsewhere in the Marvel universe, in the lead up to The Avengers. So with this trailer, it opens with a trip to the desert that links to what we saw in the Iron Man 2 post-credits sequence. The rest of the early part of the trailer makes it all seem pretty human, dealing with the culture clash of having a God dealing with being amongst mortals on Earth for the first time. Then gradually it becomes more and more fantastical and action-packed, with the concluding moments seemingly very different to most superhero movies. It’s certainly laying the groundwork for non-fans to be intrigued by the flick, and in my opinion looks pretty awesome.

Somethine Borrowed Trailer – Ginnifer Goodwin cheats with Kate Hudson’s fiance

18th February 2011 By Tim Isaac

It looks like we’ve got another movie to add to the ever growing list of rom coms based on dodgy, slightly unpleasant premises, this time with Ginnifer Goodwin playing always-singel Rachel, who wakes up on the morning of her best friend Darcy’s (Kate Hudson) wedding, in bed with the man she’s had a crush on since law school. Good for her you may think (or not if you’re old fashioned), but problem is the guy is also Darcy’s groom. Despite this being another rom com about people with the morals of Silvio Berlusconi, it does look like it could be fairly good fun. Interestingly, while John Krasinki features a fair amount in the trailer, he apparently has a relatively small role, and signed up because the directors have plans for a spin-off movie starring his character, presumably centring on the ‘secret’ the official plot synopsis says he’s going to reveal. Something Borrowed hits cinemas on May 6th.
