Mark Ruffalo makes his directorial debut with Sympathy For Delicious, which won him the Special Jury Prize at Sundance. While lead actor Christopher Thorton may not be that well known, the film has a great supporting cast, incuding Juliette Lewis, Laura Linney, Orlando Bloom and, of course, Ruffalo. The indie flick is about a paralysed DJ, struggling to survive on the streets of LA, who turns to faith healing and mysteriously develops the ability to cure the sick – although not himself. The DJ then decides to cash in on his gift in exchange for his rock ‘n’ roll dreams. No UK release date is yet set.
Mr. Popper’s Pengins Teaser Trailer – Jim Carrey has flipper-footed avian woes
For years now people have been crying out for Jim Carrey to star alongside some penguins, and now it’s happened! Sadly under-represented in the Ace Ventura films, the antartic birds now get a chance to shine alonside Carrey in this updated version of the classic children’s book, Mr. Popper’s Penguin. Mr. Popper (Carrey) is a house painter whose dreams of Arctic exploration prompt him to write letters to real explorers. One of them sends him a penguin, which he keeps in the icebox. Before he knows it, the painter has a litter of 12 beaked birds. They eat voraciously, leading him to form Popper’s Performing Penguins, a stage act that goes on tour and creates mayhem at every stop. The film shoudl reach the UK on August 5th, but click below for the teaser.
Captain America: The First Avenger Trailer – The film may look cool, but tiny body Chris Evans is creepy!
It’s undoubtedly amazing what they can do with special effects nowadays, but it has to be said, turning buff Chris Evans into a 90-pound weakling is both impressive and just a little bit creepy. However that’s how Steve Rogers starts out in Captain America: The First Avenger, before he’s chosen as the first human subject in a new experimental programme to design a super-soldier (which it has to be said, is done in an oddly homo-erotic fashion). Then he’s off to help fight in the Second World War, all muscled up and given a nifty blue suit, coming up against his Nazi opposite number, Red Skull (Hugo Weaving). The trailer makes it look very cool, but I’m just hoping I can get over my fear of mini Chris Evans before the film hits cinemas on July 29th.
Captain America – ET Preview – Let’s all shoot at Chris Evans!
In the US, Entertainment Tonight has had a special preview of the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger, which starts out seeming like it’ll just be someone talking over the top of the trailer, but then cuts into some rather cool new footage. The CG aided weedy, pre-experiment Chris Evans is still a bit creepy, but once he’s morphed into the Cap, it’s all looking pretty cool, although randomly shooting at his shield seem a bit mean. Click below to take a look. Captain America: The First Avenger hits UK cinemas July 29th.
Oh, and we’re hearing a full trailer is imminent, so watch this space.
Second 11-11-11 Teaser Trailer – Darren Lynn Bousman’s numerology flick looks really weird
I know it’s early days, but if the teaser trailers for Darren Lynn Bouman’s 11-11-11 are anything to go by, it’s going to be one really weird movie. The movie itself was inspired by a date, as it was the fact that the 11th of November this year – 11-11-11 – fell on a Friday (the day films come out) that served as the initial impetus for the creepy flick. The film suggests there’s an 11-11 phenomenon, where strange things happen when two or more elevens get together, so that at 11:11 on the 11th day of the 11th month of 2011, the combination is powerful enough that an entity from another world can attempt to enter the earthly realm through Heaven’s 11th gate. We won’t tell you the release date, as you’ve probably guessed that already.
New Hop Trailer Arrives – Another look at the Russell Brand bunny tale
A new trailer for Hop has arrived, with plenty of Easter Bunny silliness. Russell Brand is the teenage son of the Easter Bunny, who decides he doesn’t want to deliver springtime chocolate and heads to Hollywood instead. However his dreams are rather waylaid after he gets run over by out-of-work slacker Fred (James Marsden). Feigning injury the bunny becomes Fred’s unruly and rather unwanted houseguest. Hop hits cinemas on April 1st, but click below for the new trailer.
