First Shot From Rise Of The Apes – Blink and you’ll miss it, but the CG chimp looks very cool

12th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

First it was called Caesar, then Rise Of The Apes and now Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (just in case stupid people didn’t realise a film about chimps getting intelligent might have something to do with classic sci-fi movie series). However one of the big questions has been over what the simians in the film would look like. Eschewing men in monkey suits, the film has been using using motion capture, and then getting WETA to create the animals using CG. Now the first shot – strictly a WETA CGI test – has shown up online, giving us a brief but rather cool look at one of the apes. It’s pretty impressive, very realistic and wonderfully captures an animal that’s been experimented on to make it smarter, taking on some human features in the process.

In the film, James Franco stars as a scientist whose work on genetic engineering leads to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. It’ll be in cinemas later this year.

Passion Play Trailer – Mickey Rourke finds an angel in Megan Fox

12th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

The idea of Mickey Rourke as a broken down trombone player who finds an a possible angel (Megan Fox) in a sideshow sounded just about crazy enough to be pretty entertaining, however the first reviews from festival screenings haven’t been that great. Nevertheless, a US release is planned for May 6th (there’s no UK date as yet) and so a trailer has shown up online, which makes the movie look a little crazy but nevertheless very intriguing. Here’s the synopsis: ‘The last thing washed-up jazz musician Nate Pool (Academy Award-nominee Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler) wanted to do was betray sinister gangster Happy Shannon (Academy-Award-nominee Bill Murray, Lost in Translation). But it may be the last thing he does unless he can deliver Lily (Megan Fox, Transformers), a beautiful and mysterious carnival sideshow attraction. The stakes can’t get any higher for the two lovers as they try to elude the merciless killer who will stop at nothing to keep Lily for himself. Kelly Lynch (Drugstore Cowboy) and Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) costar in this gritty and unpredictable tale of redemption in the hard-boiled tradition of classic film noir.’

The Woman In Black Teaser Trailer – Daniel Radcliffe has ghost problems

11th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

Hmm, I’m not sure about this – Daniel Radcliffe wandering around without a magic wand! Well, with Harry Potter in the can and finished shooting, he’s got to fins something else to do, and later this year we’ll see him in The Woman In Black, based on Susan Hill’s creepy novel. Here’s the official synopsis: Based on the classic ghost story, THE WOMAN IN BLACK tells the tale of Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a lawyer who is forced to leave his young son and travel to a remote village to attend to the affairs of the recently deceased owner of Eel Marsh House.

Working alone in the old mansion, Kipps begins to uncover the town’s tragic and tortured secrets and his fears escalate when he discovers that local children have been dying under mysterious circumstances. When those closest to him become threatened by the vengeful woman in black, Kipps must find a way to break the cycle of terror.

THE WOMAN IN BLACK also stars Ciaran Hinds (TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY) and Janet McTeer (TUMBLEWEEDS), was adapted from Susan Hill’s novel for the screen by Jane Goldman (KICK ASS) and directed by James Watkins (EDEN LAKE).

It’ll hit cinemas February 10th, 2012.

Johnny English Reborn Trailer – Rowan Atkinson returns as the spoof spy

8th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

‘Why?’ is my only response to the fact they’ve made a sequel to Johnny English. The first one was rubbish,  was released eight years ago and everyone had forgotten about it. My presumption is that Rowan Atkinson, who’s said before he isn’t a big fan of working, was either bored or needed more money, and that’s why we’ve got Johnny English Reborn. Anyway, it’s coming October 7th, with Atkinson back as the spoof special agent, who return to MI-7 having vanished off the grid for years. However he’s been honing his skills while he was away, and now has a shot at redemption. Click below to watch the trailer.

Dolphin Tale Trailer – A heartwarming story of a mutilated dolphin

8th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

Everyone loves dolphins, right? Well, what about a film based on the story of a dolphin that lost its tail as a baby, when it got caught in a crab trap? I can feel you welling up already. That’s the true-life basis of Dolhin Tale, about Winter, a dolphin who was captured and nursed back to health after losing her tail, with those around her motivated to do something that had never been tried before and create a bionic tail for her. The film follows a young boy who befriends the animal and inspires people to make the animal’s life better. Morgan Freeman, Harry Connick Jr, Kris Kristofferson and Ashley Judd (yes, she’s still alive) star. It’ll be in cinemas later this year, but click below for the trailer.

Anonymous Trailer – Roland Emmerich takes on Shakespeare (without the world ending)

8th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

It seems almost unbelievable, but Roland Emmerich has managed to make a film that’s not about the world facing desperate cataclysm! Well, unless you believe the revelation that Shakespeare didn’t write any of the play attributed to him earth-shattering. Anonymous delves into the world of those who believe it was someone else who created Hamlet et. al., following in the footsteps of numerous luminaries who’ve tried to disavow Shakespeare as the creator of his 37 plays. And as this trailer shows, it was a time of much political intrigue and cloak and dagger secrecy, in which a secret author could possibly have existed. Whether the film, starring Rhys Ifans, Derek Jacobi and David Thewlis, is even vaguely close to the truth is very much debatable, but it hits cinemas later this year. Click below for the trailer.
