Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes Teaser Trailer – Plus some great new concept art

14th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

Yesterday was pretty much the launch of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, with a live webcast with the WETA digital effects guys talking about the movie (which we’ve embedded below), the release of some rather funky concept  art over on the film’s Facebook page (which is above and below), as well as the relase of the first trailer for the movie. We’ve certainly come a long way from men in monkey suits, with motion capture being used to create photo-real CG simians (you can see some progression shots of that over at Empire). A prequel/reboot of The Planet Of The Apes franchise, the film is set in present day San Francisco and billed as a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. James Franco and Frieda Pinto star. Click below to watch the trailer. It hits cinemas August 5th.

Holy Rollers International Trailer – Jesse Eisenberg goes Hasidic and gets into crime

14th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

Holy Rollers is certainly taking its time to get to UK cinemas. It first screened at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, but won’t arrive in British cinemas until May 13th, and now a new UK trailer has arrived. Inspired by actual events in the late 90s when Hasidic Jews were recruited as mules to smuggle ecstasy from Europe into the United States, Sam Gold (Jesse Eisenberg) is a young Hasid from an Orthodox Brooklyn community who reluctantly follows the path his family has chosen for him, awaiting a pending arranged marriage and studying to become a Rabbi. A charming neighbour, Yosef Zimmerman (Justin Bartha), senses Sam’s resistance and propositions him to transport ‘medicine’ for Jackie (Danny A. Abeckaser), an Israeli gangster and drug dealer, and his girlfriend, Rachel (Ari Graynor). Sam quickly demonstrates his business skills to his boss, Jackie, who instantly takes him under his wing. Now exposed to the exciting and gritty worlds of the Manhattan and Amsterdam nightlife, Sam begins to spiral deeper into their detrimental lifestyle, experimenting with ecstasy and then falling for Rachel. As the business grows, Sam’s double life begins to rip his family apart and the community becomes suspicious of his illegal activities.

Abduction Trailer – Taylor Lautner is on the run in an explosive new action flick

14th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

While he’s become very famous and is commanding ridiculously huge paycheques, Taylor Lautner’s yet to prove himself outside the Twilight franchise. He’s going to get his first chance to do that with Abduction, and the trailer for that movie has just arrived, with Lautner running around like a maniac and showing off his action chops. He plays Nathan, who has long felt disconnected from his parents and then discovers his own baby pictures on a missing person’s website. This unleashes a chain of violent events and enters Bourne territory (I don’t think that means he got amnensia as a baby, more that there’ll be plenty of conspiracies and action), with Nathan and his girlfriend (Lily Collins) going on the run, to try and work out why he was kidnapped as a child. John Singleton direct what looks like it should be a pretty explosive movie. Click below to watch the trailer. Abduction is currently set to hit cinemas on September 30th.

The Hobbit – Start Of Production Video Diary – 10 minutes of Hobbity goodness with Peter Jackson

14th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

As promised by Peter Jackson the other day, the first of what should be a lot of Hobbit behind-the-scenes video diaries has gone up over on his Facebook page, and you can watch it embedded below. Although not wanting to show us too much, there’s plenty of interesting footage, including a brief look into the costume department, as well as some of the sets, the discussions that have been going on amongst the crew, the cast sitting in the Bag End set, and a welcoming ceremony and blessing on a soundstage. It’s well worth a watch, with 10 minutes of behind-the-scenes goodness. And make sure you keep up with Jackson’s Facebook page if you want to see everything’s he’s going to offer before the first film’s release at the end of 2012.

The Perfect Host Trailer – Don’t screw up David Hyde Pierce’s dinner party!

13th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

It’s almost as if Nials from Frasier finally tipped over the edge and when psycho in this intriguing but rather strange looking movie. David Hyde Pierce plays consummate host Warwick Wilson. He carefully prepares for a dinner party, the table impeccably set and the duck perfectly timed for 8:30 p.m. However John Taylor is a career criminal who’s just robbed a bank and needs to get off the streets. He finds himself on Warwick’s doorstep posing as a friend of a friend, new to Los Angeles, who’s been mugged and lost his luggage. As the wine flows and the evening progresses, it becomes clear that maybe it’s not Warwick who shouldn’t have opened the door, but John who should have knocked. Click below for the trailer.
